Position Overview
FMG (Farmers Mutual Group) is seeking a Senior Underwriter - Technical to join their Underwriting Team in Christchurch, New Zealand. This role focuses on providing expert underwriting advice and managing complex risks across diverse sectors including rural, commercial, and corporate portfolios. The position acts as a critical technical resource, ensuring consistent underwriting decisions aligned with governance frameworks while contributing to portfolio and risk management strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer specialist technical underwriting guidance for complex or escalated risk cases.
- Ensure consistent adherence to FMG’s underwriting appetite, delegated authority policies, and governance standards.
- Generate detailed insights, reports, and recommendations to enhance underwriting effectiveness and performance.
- Assist with portfolio oversight, risk evaluations, and design of reinsurance solutions.
- Provide expert coaching, guidance, and training to underwriting personnel and frontline teams.
- Participate in updating underwriting systems, refining processes, and revising procedural guidelines.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates bring considerable experience in underwriting with a strong foundation in technical risk evaluation. The role demands sound judgment, confidence in handling multifaceted risks, and an ability to offer practical, client-oriented solutions. Strong communication skills to build trust with stakeholders through transparent advice and collaborative problem-solving are essential.
