Job description
Role Summary
This full-time position based in Auckland focuses on underwriting a complex and diverse portfolio covering financial lines and liability. The role is permanent and provides opportunities for hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite complex financial and liability risks by making timely decisions in line with delegated authority and company policies.
- Manage portfolio growth and retention by collaborating with internal teams and external brokers to meet renewal and new business targets.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to promote QBE’s capabilities and develop tailored insurance solutions.
- Monitor and analyze the portfolio, market trends, competitor landscape, and broker activities to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
- Contribute to enhancing product offerings, processes, and overall quality improvements within the underwriting function.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced underwriter specializing in financial lines and liability, combining deep technical knowledge with strong commercial insight. They should be an autonomous, collaborative professional who is capable of mentoring others and comfortable making independent decisions.
- Extensive underwriting experience in financial lines and liability with solid understanding of related laws, standards, systems, and products.
- Proven track record of profitable portfolio management through effective pricing, risk assessment, and use of actuarial tools.
- Ability to assess complex risks, resolve issues, and make sound decisions within delegated authority.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, including engaging with senior stakeholders and clients.
- Strong analytical and research abilities with insight into market developments and regulatory environments.
Additional Information
- The role may involve some domestic travel for broker and customer engagement nationwide.
