Senior Underground Mine Geologist

About the Role

A national mining company is seeking a Senior Underground Mine Geologist to support ongoing projects and help initiate new exploration initiatives. This key position serves as the principal technical liaison between Geology, Mining Operations, Geotechnical, and Technical Services teams, requiring strong technical leadership, decision-making, and resource reporting expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure the accuracy of the underground geological model, including grade, structural data, and ore continuity.
• Define and enforce technical procedures and standards for grade control, sampling, and ore delineation, ensuring team adherence through audits.
• Provide advanced technical insights into mine planning, stope design, and sequencing to resolve complex geological challenges.
• Lead detailed investigations into discrepancies in grade or tonnage reconciliations and implement corrective measures.
• Supervise and mentor underground geologists and geology technicians, managing schedules, workloads, and providing technical training.
• Communicate the overall geological status, performance, and challenges of the underground operations.

Candidate Profile

• Hold a tertiary qualification in Geology; membership or eligibility for AusIMM Competent Person is highly advantageous.
• Experienced in managing and leading underground geology teams and workflows in Australian hardrock mining environments.
• Proficient with geological database and modeling software such as Vulcan, Micromine, Leapfrog, or Datamine.
• Strong skills in data verification, mapping, modeling, reconciliation, and reporting.
• Knowledgeable about JORC Code requirements and resource/reserve reporting processes, with preference for experience in Gold, Copper, or Nickel.
