Key Responsibilities

• Manage design activities involving traffic signals, junctions, temporary works, and other relevant traffic engineering components while maintaining seamless communication with project teams throughout all stages.
• Define and control the scope, schedule, and budget of traffic engineering design tasks, monitoring progress and resource allocation to ensure project milestones are met.
• Regularly update the project manager with written and verbal reports covering project status, milestones, risks, and mitigation strategies.
• Present expert technical findings and recommendations in traffic engineering matters.
• Lead preparation of traffic engineering plans, such as signal designs, signing and marking, intersection conceptualizations, and Intelligent Transportation System designs, ensuring accuracy and efficacy.
• Facilitate coordination with subject matter experts including surveyors and roadway designers to integrate expertise into traffic signal and control plans.
• Conduct and document comprehensive traffic studies adhering to nationally recognized modeling standards, employing analytical tools to evaluate traffic flow and safety.
• Guide technical methodologies on projects and review outputs generated by other engineers to uphold quality and best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers by sharing technical knowledge and consultancy skills, fostering their professional development.
• Contribute to the successful execution of traffic engineering projects that promote safety and enhance transportation functions.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• At least 15 years of relevant professional experience.
• Familiarity with Microstation, Bentley OpenRoads, and/or Projectwise software.
• Knowledge of traffic analysis tools such as HCS, Transmodeler, Synchro, and SimTraffic.
• Understanding of traffic operations standards including ITE, OMUTCD, MUTCD, ODOT TEM, AASHTO, and ODOT L&D requirements.
• Proven expertise in developing traffic signal design plans.
• Experience in one or more areas including ODOT design standards, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design, traffic operations analysis, or intersection conceptual design drafting.
• Capability to review external design submissions and manage comment coordination for approvals.
• Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
• A proactive approach to personal tasks and assisting others to enhance overall PMO effectiveness.

Preferred Attributes and Credentials

• Prior experience working within a Project Management Office (PMO).
• Chartered status or equivalent recognition from a professional engineering body.
• Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering.
• Proven ability in managing large tasks or complex projects.
