Job description
Position Overview
This role requires Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain Australian Government Defence security clearance at the necessary level. As part of the AIR6500 program—a $3 billion initiative by the RAAF to deploy an advanced joint air battle management system—you will contribute vital multimedia and graphical content supporting Technical Publications and Training Development.
Working collaboratively in an agile environment with ILS leads, project teams, engineers, and clients, your focus will be developing, updating, and managing various ILS multimedia outputs for mission-critical and support systems. Deliverables include technical illustrations, graphics, videos, animations, interactive media, and other visual materials aimed at clarifying complex technical data.
You will also provide expert advice on designing multimedia and graphical assets, ensuring these materials are precise, user-friendly, appealing, and suitable for their intended applications. Integration of multimedia into Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs), training tools, and computer-based learning modules is a core responsibility.

- Develop and combine computer-generated graphics, video, text, and animations to effectively communicate technical information.
- Analyze engineering documents, schematics, and specifications, collaborating closely with engineers, SMEs, technical writers, and training developers to produce accurate visuals.
- Provide expert advice on multimedia design, visual communications, and technical illustration to ILS leaders, project teams, and clients.
- Ensure multimedia products comply with configuration and change management standards to maintain accuracy and consistency.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements of multimedia processes, tools, and ILS products; experience with S1000D or structured Technical Publication environments is advantageous.
Skills and Experience Required
- Advanced proficiency in technical illustration within formal Technical Publication authoring frameworks.
- Practical knowledge of DEF (AUST) 5629C, DEF (AUST) 5630, and S1000D standards, with experience in supporting IETMs.
- Skill in designing and integrating computer-generated graphics, images, video, text, and animations tailored for training and courseware.
- Understanding of ILS Technical Publication and Training settings, including relevant processes and the engineering product lifecycle.
- Experience in engineering or maintenance contexts, ideally within defense sectors.
- Strong interpretation abilities to translate highly technical information into clear and precise multimedia content.
- Familiarity with configuration and change management applied to technical publications and multimedia artefacts.
- Capability to simplify complex ideas into visually accessible presentations.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work with engineers, specialists, training creators, and clients.
- Proficiency with AI prompting related to multimedia, graphics, and technical communication development.
