Team Overview

The Security and Compliance team at OKX leads the development of intelligent AI systems to detect and prevent identity fraud, account takeovers, and fraudulent activities in real time on a global scale. The team’s core AI capabilities focus on validating user identities via face and liveness detection, document and identity verification, and integrated risk modeling. Collaborating closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Engineering, the team tackles challenging adversarial problems in crypto to build robust defenses.

Role Summary

We seek a Senior Staff AI Engineer to take a leadership position in shaping and maintaining OKX’s critical security AI technology. This role covers the full lifecycle from research and design through to deployment of AI solutions addressing key domains such as face intelligence, anti-spoofing, document understanding, multimodal risk evaluation, and AI-driven investigative agents. You will blend hands-on technical development with strategic leadership, mentoring senior engineers and influencing cross-team initiatives to ensure resilient, efficient AI solutions aligned to company goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, training, and implementation of advanced deep learning and multimodal AI models servicing millions of users, including applications in computer vision, vision-language models, and AI agents.
• Develop and maintain production-ready AI pipelines for OCR, biometric authentication, fraud detection, and AI-generated content monitoring, ensuring low latency, high reliability, and scalability.
• Own and advance face intelligence and liveness detection to counter presentation, injection, and DeepFake attacks; develop quality assessment models for images and videos to ensure security decisions remain sound in realistic environments.
• Create robust identity and trust metrics by integrating behavioral data, historic trends, and multi-signal risk indicators.
• Drive execution amid ambiguity while prioritizing technical debt; collaborate across backend, product, infrastructure, risk, and compliance teams to integrate AI technologies at scale and influence stakeholders with diverse backgrounds.
• Promote applied research and development efforts, experimenting with vision-language models, multimodal representation learning, and AI agent technologies, adopting the latest theoretical and practical advances into effective defenses.
• Raise the technical standards of the team by mentoring senior engineers and disseminating best practices in applied AI throughout the organization.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum of eight years experience developing AI/ML systems, particularly in computer vision, multimodal learning, generative video/image models, or AI agents, with proven success deploying systems to production.
• Expertise in AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, complemented by solid experience working with large-scale machine learning production environments.
• Proficiency in Python programming and comprehensive system-level design skills to create high availability, low latency AI solutions.
• Track record of leading complex technical projects across teams and delivering AI-driven solutions at scale.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, able to influence product and engineering leadership effectively.
• Demonstrated mentorship capabilities, guiding senior peers and fostering elevated engineering practices.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Preferred Expertise

• Experience with identity verification systems, KYC/KYB compliance, AML protocols, fraud detection, biometric authentication, or media forensic analysis.
• Hands-on work with OCR, document parsing, fake-ID detection, and security document systems.
• Familiarity with real-time AI systems and large-scale low-latency production deployments.
• Knowledgeable in modern data and machine learning infrastructure tools such as Spark, Flink, Kafka, Airflow, and Snowflake.
• Understanding of MLOps practices including model monitoring, retraining strategies, and continuous delivery.
• Experience in startup-like or security-critical tech environments.
• Contributions to AI research through publications, patents, or reputable open-source projects.
