Role Overview

As a Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE), you will creatively design and implement software applications that simplify complex tasks for customers, enhancing efficiency and transforming processes. You will oversee the entire lifecycle of software development and ongoing maintenance, contributing to impactful solutions that save time, effort, and costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Build high-quality software using Java, particularly experienced with frameworks like Spring Boot or others.
• Engage with cloud environments, primarily Microsoft Azure, and utilize Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, or show readiness to adopt them.
• Implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) strategies to streamline software deployments.
• Produce and maintain clear, detailed documentation covering development workflows and system architecture.
• Leverage data-informed decision making to balance immediate deliverables with long-term objectives, embracing suitable compromises.
• Adhere to Tesco's architectural guidelines and best practices, emphasizing security-first principles and utilizing tools for vulnerability management and secure software coding.
• Ensure software systems are reliable, scalable, and efficient.
• Own the systems you work on, enhancing their reliability, maintainability, and overall performance.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering an environment of collaboration and professional growth.
• Automate routine processes and develop tools or scripts to boost operational efficiency.

Technical Requirements

• Strong experience in Java or other JVM languages; familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript is advantageous.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot or Micronaut frameworks.
• Knowledge or willingness to work with cloud infrastructure, especially Microsoft Azure, combined with infrastructure automation via Terraform.
• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Working knowledge of SQL databases such as PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases like Cosmos DB or CouchDB.
• Exposure to monitoring and alerting platforms including Splunk, xMatters, and New Relic.
• Familiarity with version control systems like GitHub.
• Experience using support and issue-tracking tools such as Zendesk and JIRA.
• Understanding and practice of Agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban.
