Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer at Domain, you will be integral in advancing our platform by spearheading the creation of innovative and robust software solutions. You will manage the life cycle of medium-scale projects encompassing design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance and enhancements.
About the Search Platform Squad
The team is charged with implementing Domain's search and discovery services used daily by millions to browse residential and commercial properties. They maintain high-performance OpenSearch-based APIs critical to the Domain experience, achieving relevance, reliability, and scalability under intense production demand. The squad also plays a strategic role in integrating Domain’s discovery systems with the global CoStar platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee complete project phases for medium-sized scopes: design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous refinement.
- Solve complex and loosely defined technical problems with innovative solutions.
- Consistently produce, review, and co-author clear, well-documented, and tested production-quality code.
- Work proficiently with a variety of programming languages, frameworks, and development tools.
- Swiftly identify and resolve issues, balancing quality, speed, and technical debt considerations.
- Embed security-focused mindsets in development and code reviews to detect and address vulnerabilities.
- Understand the broader system impacts and align with Domain-wide standards for architecture, security, and technology.
- Engineer solutions with long-term scalability and future requirements in mind.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners to align software solutions with business goals and user needs.
- Optimize applications for performance, maintainability, and security continuously.
- Contribute to managing system health and technical debt within owned services.
- Partner with Lead Engineers and Tech Leads to improve processes and system changes.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
- Extensive experience with C#/.NET and ElasticSearch or OpenSearch for backend distributed services.
- Proven capability designing scalable software solutions.
- Experience maintaining high-traffic, customer-facing service environments.
- Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge and practice of DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code.
- Familiarity with cloud design patterns and modern application security practices (OWASP).
- Understanding and implementation experience of shift-left testing methodologies.
- Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture paradigms.
- Track record of working with technical leadership to optimize engineering processes.
- Mentorship of junior engineering staff.
- Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams including Product and Design.
Desirable Skills
- Direct AWS usage skills (ECS/EKS, Bedrock, IAM, networking).
- Expertise with AI-supported engineering workflows.
- Experience building production artificial intelligence or large language model systems.
- Proficiency with TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS Lambda infrastructure-as-code (CDK).
- Cloud platform certifications, particularly AWS-related.
