Senior Software Engineer - Platform Engineering

Overview

Bloomberg is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure Platform Engineering team in Dublin. Our team is responsible for developing modern software platforms that streamline the deployment, configuration, validation, monitoring, and management of critical production services that Bloomberg depends on daily. This role offers end-to-end ownership, managing both the platform software and the production services it supports, transitioning from manual operator tasks to automated, secure, and repeatable workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable software systems to manage production services securely.
• Create deployment, configuration, validation, and observability processes for production infrastructure.
• Implement workflows that simplify review, validation, auditing, and rollback, minimizing manual operations.
• Enhance telemetry, alerting, and health monitoring to facilitate easier issue detection and diagnosis.
• Operate and maintain the production services managed by the platform, including participation in an on-call rotation.
• Collaborate with internal teams and partners to understand requirements and deliver robust platform solutions.
• Conduct rigorous code reviews for yourself and others, focusing on correctness, design excellence, test coverage, maintainability, and operational safety.
• Question existing assumptions and contribute to evolving the platform's architecture and operational approach.

Required Qualifications

• Proven software engineering experience in functional or object-oriented programming languages; Python and Go experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Experience developing, testing, debugging, and managing production software or infrastructure platforms.
• Strong analytical skills to resolve ambiguous technical challenges, assess trade-offs, and make informed design choices.
• Excellent communication abilities, including verbal, written, and diagrammatic presentation skills.
• Commitment to high standards in code creation and peer reviews, emphasizing correctness, design quality, comprehensive testing, and sustainable maintainability.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Experience

• Background in building deployment platforms, orchestration tools, infrastructure-as-code workflows, or internal tooling for developers and operators.
• Familiarity with designing safe rollout strategies, validation processes, rollback mechanisms, and automated remediation workflows.
• Experience utilizing observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Humio, Prometheus, or comparable platforms.
• Track record of supporting diverse internal users while maintaining clear platform standards.
• Knowledge of Linux infrastructure, virtualization technologies, or large-scale production environments.
• Interest in mentoring colleagues and elevating the engineering maturity of the team.
