Job description
About Cast AI
Cast AI offers an automation platform that manages cloud-native and AI infrastructure at scale by embedding autonomous decision-making directly into Kubernetes and cloud environments. This continuous optimization boosts performance, reliability, and efficiency in production settings. Serving over 2,100 companies—including Akamai, BMW, Cisco, and others—Cast AI transforms cloud infrastructure management by replacing manual interventions with adaptive automation that naturally drives cost savings and efficiency.
With a global presence across 34 countries and a diverse team, Cast AI embraces international perspectives and recently achieved unicorn status with a valuation over $1 billion. This role is open to candidates residing in specified European countries including Ireland.
Role Overview
The Platform Engineering team ensures that new services seamlessly transition from development to production via reliable CI/CD pipelines, built-in observability, and standardized practices, eliminating repetitive infrastructure reinvention across teams. As a senior engineer on this internal-facing team, you’ll empower hundreds of engineers by building tools and platforms that facilitate reliability, speed, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate CI/CD pipelines used by all engineering teams.
- Create and maintain observability and monitoring tools that assist other teams in debugging production systems.
- Develop local environment tooling that simulates production-like conditions on developers' laptops.
- Identify and resolve infrastructure pain points to enhance engineering productivity, focusing on root causes rather than workarounds.
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning CI/CD processes, observability systems, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
- Contribute to roadmap planning, shaping the platform’s future capabilities to best support engineering teams.
Required Skills and Experience
- Solid software engineering fundamentals with an emphasis on clean abstractions, maintainable code, and thoughtful architecture decisions.
- Proven production experience in Go is strongly preferred; alternatively, robust systems programming expertise in comparable languages.
- Hands-on experience in platform engineering including CI/CD and GitOps tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Argo CD, Kargo), infrastructure as code (Terraform), container orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm), observability tooling (VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, Loki, Tempo), and major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Familiarity with AI coding agents and agentic software development workflows.
- A track record of independently managing complex projects from start to finish.
- Strong debugging, optimization, and performance tuning abilities.
- Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Mindset adaptable to startups: proactive, flexible, and comfortable navigating ambiguity.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kubernetes operators, Helm chart creation, and admission webhooks.
- Exposure to internal developer platform design including golden paths, self-service tooling, and service catalogs.
- Familiarity with local development environment tools like devcontainers, Tilt, or Skaffold.
- Contributions to cloud-native open source projects.
Tools and Technologies Commonly Used
- Programming Language: Go
- Cloud and Orchestration: Kubernetes, GCP, AWS, Azure
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform
- Storage and Databases: ClickHouse, Cloud Object Storage
- Messaging and APIs: GCP Pub/Sub, gRPC (internal), REST (public)
- Observability: Grafana, VictoriaMetrics suite (metrics, logs, traces)
- CI/CD & GitOps: GitLab CI, ArgoCD, Kargo
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary ranging between €6,500 and €9,000 gross monthly, depending on experience level.
- Additional pay for participation in on-call duties covering passive and active interventions.
- Flexible, remote-first work environment with a global, diverse team of cloud and Kubernetes experts.
- Stock option equity participation.
- Fast-paced workflow enabling project completion typically within 1 to 4 weeks.
- Opportunity to dedicate 10% of work time to personal projects or self-improvement.
- Learning budget supporting attendance at international conferences and courses for professional growth.
- Annual hackathon fostering innovation and team collaboration.
- Team-building funds and company events to enhance team connections.
- Equipment budget ensuring necessary hardware and software tools.
- Additional leave days supporting work-life balance.
- Company-covered travel expense for onboarding in Vilnius.
Recruitment Process
- Initial screening interview with a recruiter.
- Interview with hiring manager.
- Technical system design interview.
- Live coding assessment.
- Culture fit interview with an executive leader.
- Final selection may include a background check conducted by a third party.
- The company does not provide visa sponsorship or work permits.
