About The Notification Platform Team

The team develops and manages the fundamental infrastructure that handles company-wide communications, enabling multiple notification channels to reach customers and internal stakeholders reliably at scale. Their cloud-native platform incorporates modern design patterns including reactive programming, workflow orchestration, and distributed systems, supporting complex organizational messaging needs. The platform is mission-critical and I/O intensive, demanding engineering excellence, operational diligence, and continuous innovation. This team also evaluates strategic solutions shaping the company's notification systems.

Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will play a key role in owning sophisticated components of the Notification Platform, delivering high-quality, scalable solutions collaboratively with teammates. While not a managerial position, the role demands technical leadership through solid design choices, execution, and promoting team effectiveness by example.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and sustain a robust Notification Platform capable of delivering messages globally via SMS, Email, and Push with low latency and high throughput.
• Maintain architectural standards through event-driven design emphasizing scalability, traceability, and automation.
• Explore and implement new notification channels such as WhatsApp and inbox messaging to enhance user engagement.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Design teams internationally, supporting rapid business changes with data-driven insights and effective communication.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues spanning various system layers.
• Partner with the Issuing Platform team, a primary user of the Notification Platform, supporting Airwallex Cards and Transactions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related field, with strong expertise in delivering enterprise-level software systems.
• Proficient in modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go with extensive software engineering experience.
• Over 5 years of practical experience designing and developing large-scale, low-latency, high-throughput systems.
• At least 3 years building distributed systems using middleware technologies like Kafka and PostgreSQL, including hands-on experience in managing and tuning event pipelines.
• Solid understanding of Java memory management, multithreading, concurrency, I/O/NIO, and network communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Interests extending into backend adjacent areas such as design systems, AI, search technologies, gateways, and data analytics.
• Commitment to automation, reducing technical debt, and focusing on high-impact work.
• Experience with distributed databases and storage systems including PostgreSQL, Redis, and NoSQL.
• Knowledgeable about messaging patterns and system resilience.
• Practical Kafka implementation experience.
