Senior Software Engineer, Consumer Payments Growth

About the Role

Join Google as a Senior Software Engineer focusing on Consumer Payments Growth within the Singapore office. You will lead technical strategies and develop end-to-end engineering solutions to accelerate global adoption, everyday use, and retention of Google Wallet and Google Payments. This role involves working on scalable distributed systems spanning real-time decision pipelines, financial settlement processing, quest engines, and low-latency data aggregation with collaboration across global teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and implementation of scalable backend services and APIs in Java/C++ supporting event streaming and growth initiatives.
• Develop communication infrastructure for personalized contextual messaging across mobile, web, and checkout platforms.
• Design resilient financial settlement workflows and digital voucher systems ensuring strict transactional integrity and abuse prevention.
• Create low-latency feature stores and telemetry pipelines collaborating with data science teams to enable A/B testing and causal analysis; implement gamified reward systems for sustainable user engagement.
• Drive technically complex multi-quarter projects, provide mentorship to junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and promote AI-assisted coding practices to increase productivity.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in software engineering.
• At least 5 years of programming experience using C++, Java, Python, or Go.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in testing, maintaining or launching software products and 1 year in software design and architecture.
• 3 years designing and operating scalable backend distributed systems, microservices, or high-throughput APIs.
• Proven leadership in technical design and delivery of long-term software projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Consumer Payments domain, loyalty/reward platforms, promotional voucher systems, or large-scale funnel optimization.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, pub/sub messaging, and real-time streaming pipelines.
• Expertise in distributed relational databases such as Spanner or SQL, with schema lifecycle management, transaction isolation, and idempotency patterns.
• Familiarity with large-scale experimentation platforms and working in tandem with data scientists for user behavior analysis.
• Demonstrated cross-functional leadership and effective communication within globally distributed teams.
• Interest and practical use of AI-powered development tools to enhance engineering workflows.
