Team Overview

The Computer Vision (CV) team is responsible for developing and maintaining the foundational technologies supporting Protex's ecosystem. This includes ensuring reliable edge-to-cloud connectivity, scalable data management, and delivering performant backend services tailored for real-time computer vision use cases. The team supports deployments on edge devices to enable proactive workplace safety worldwide.

Role Summary

We seek an experienced Senior Software Engineer with specialized knowledge in C and modern C++ to join our CV team. The role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing a real-time video analytics pipeline that underpins our AI-driven safety platform. The system is built on the NVIDIA DeepStream SDK and GStreamer frameworks, running on edge hardware with stringent latency and throughput requirements. You will be accountable for ensuring high performance, reliability, and observability across this entire pipeline, from custom GStreamer plugin development to seamless edge-to-cloud data delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement efficient real-time video processing pipelines utilizing C/C++.
  • Optimize performance and scalability for demanding AI analytics workloads on edge hardware.
  • Develop and maintain custom GStreamer plugins to handle multimedia processing and metadata management.
  • Manage concurrency and multithreaded programming challenges for robust, low-latency systems.
  • Lead debugging efforts of multi-threaded real-time applications using advanced tools like GDB.
  • Support deployment workflows, including containerization with Docker, especially on resource-limited edge devices.
  • Mentor engineering peers and influence technical roadmap decisions to enhance system design and quality.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of traditional C and modern C++ standards (C++17/20), emphasizing maintainability and safety.
  • Proficiency in multithreading, asynchronous programming, and concurrency control in C++ environments.
  • Strong skills in profiling, monitoring, and debugging high-performance C++ applications.
  • Experience with Docker builds and deployments targeting edge computing devices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with NVIDIA DeepStream SDK for AI video analytics.
  • Familiarity with GStreamer, including writing or maintaining custom plugins (pads, caps negotiation, buffer and metadata handling).
  • CUDA programming and GPU memory management knowledge on NVIDIA Jetson-class hardware.
  • Understanding of video encoding/decoding standards like H.264, H.265, and MJPEG and streaming protocols.
  • Hands-on experience deploying edge applications using platforms like AWS IoT Greengrass, and managing edge-to-cloud interprocess communication.
  • Comfort with Python for build systems, testing frameworks, and integrating analytics workflows.
  • Experience with CMake build systems.
  • Capability in embedding observability features such as structured logging, health checks, and graceful degradation into real-time systems.
