Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Job Overview

The OnStar service is a fundamental offering from General Motors, providing safety, security, diagnostics, navigation, and convenience to users via mobile apps, web interfaces, and in-vehicle integrations, all supported by a sophisticated cloud infrastructure worldwide. We are expanding our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team in Dublin to maintain and improve the resilience, performance, and scalability of the OnStar product suite used by millions.

We seek a seasoned engineer skilled in SRE, cloud infrastructure management, and project leadership to enhance reliability practices across OnStar’s customer-facing platforms and underlying backend systems.

Primary Responsibilities

• Architect and deliver robust, scalable, and fault-tolerant infrastructure supporting the OnStar mobile apps, web portals, vehicle services, and backend systems.
• Champion and implement configuration management, infrastructure refactoring efforts, and automated testing to enhance system stability.
• Collaborate with SRE, development, and product teams to bolster service availability, secure deployment processes, and optimize incident response workflows.
• Offer expert guidance on reliability standards related to new OnStar functionalities, public-facing releases, and platform upgrades.
• Advance observability initiatives utilizing tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog, including setting up automated alerts and service level objective (SLO) dashboards.
• Improve on-call methodologies, lead blameless post-incident reviews, and drive root cause analyses to prevent recurrent system failures.
• Mentor peers and cultivate a culture focused on strong ownership and operational excellence.
• Engage with compliance and privacy-focused engineering projects impacting connected services, covering areas like data retention policies and safety certification tooling.

Qualifications and Skills

• Over six years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or systems engineering roles, including mentoring and leading technical projects.
• Demonstrated history managing high-scale cloud-native platforms on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• In-depth familiarity with Kubernetes for container orchestration along with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Proficient programming skills in Python, Go, or Java, with an emphasis on code quality and peer reviews.
• Experience spearheading cross-functional infrastructure projects and defining configuration strategies or tooling architectures.
• Calm and decisive under pressure, adept at troubleshooting live incidents and balancing uptime against cost considerations.
• Knowledge or experience in privacy engineering, data security, or compliance frameworks considered advantageous.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, capable of influencing and leading diverse technical teams.

Additional Information

This position requires a hybrid work model, with a minimum presence in the Dublin office three times weekly, subject to business needs.
