Role Overview

The Senior SAP ABAP Developer plays a key role in designing, developing, and delivering high-quality SAP solutions encompassing both on-premise and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) ABAP environments. This position emphasizes creating scalable, efficient, and maintainable applications utilizing advanced ABAP techniques and modern programming paradigms.

The developer functions as a technical lead collaborating closely with functional consultants, architects, and business stakeholders to convert complex needs into robust designs. Responsibilities include driving solution architecture, enforcing development standards, performing code reviews, ensuring performance optimization, and adhering to clean-core principles.

The role involves crafting sophisticated extensions and integrations using SAP BTP, RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP), and cloud-native methodologies. Moreover, mentoring junior colleagues, advocating best practices, and contributing to continuous innovation within the SAP environment are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for Business Analysts regarding application or technical inquiries and potential solutions.
• Analyze business requirements and functional specs to devise effective technical solutions spanning multiple business entities.
• Provide governance and technical guidance for SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP ABAP developments ensuring compliance with architecture and development standards.
• Design complex solutions integrating various functions, business units, tools, and systems.
• Develop, test, and implement new application programs or modify existing ones.
• Balance factors such as performance, scalability, reliability, availability, maintainability, and manageability while addressing business needs.
• Offer post-implementation support and routine maintenance including evening, weekend, and on-call assistance as required.
• Support new project launches by designing and constructing SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP ABAP components that meet specified requirements.
• Act as a senior technical authority providing hands-on support in problem-solving, design, and integration complexities.
• Potentially lead teams or projects, overseeing delivery of project phases.
• Advocate platform and industry best practices such as cloud-ready development and clean core principles.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Certifications such as SAP Backend Developer – ABAP Cloud, SAP Backend Developer – Cloud Application Programming Model, or any relevant SAP Development Cloud certification are required.
• Between 5 to 8 years of experience within the SAP ecosystem.
• Minimum of 5 years hands-on SAP BTP ABAP development experience.
• Proven success delivering and governing SAP ABAP solutions in complex enterprise setups.
• In-depth skill set including SAP S/4HANA ABAP, SAP BTP ABAP Environment, SAP Business Application Studio, RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP), Cloud Application Programming Model (CAPM), SAP Build, and SAP BTP Workflow.
• Clear understanding of modern programming paradigms and cloud-based extension models.
• Strong business and functional insight enabling translation of enterprise needs into effective, scalable solutions.
