About the Role
WildBrain Studios is seeking a Senior Rigger for feature animation to join our creative team based in British Columbia. Reporting to the Producer and working closely alongside the Rigging Supervisor, you will be responsible for developing adaptable rigging systems and animation interfaces for use in animating CG characters, props, and vehicles. This position requires residency in BC.
Responsibilities
- Construct rigs for CG assets including characters, props, and sets aiming to meet animation performance standards.
- Apply skinning and deformation methods to enhance rig functionality efficiently.
- Diagnose and improve rigs during production to ensure consistency and reliability for animation.
- Work in cooperation with production teams, design, modeling, and shading departments to fulfill animation objectives.
- Assess scripts and animatics to determine rigging needs.
- Oversee rigging task delegation and maintain communication regarding concerns with the Rigging Supervisor.
- Maintain a professional, positive work demeanor.
- Participate in advancing in-house rigging tools and workflows through tool creation, bug reporting/fixing, and brainstorming.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years rigging experience including at least 2 years in feature animation production.
- Strong expertise and enthusiasm for rigging and deformation, especially corrective shape-driven workflows for both facial and body rigs.
- Proficient with rigging in Maya, including Python scripting capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of 3D mathematics relevant to rigging.
- Excellent problem-solving aptitude.
- Effective multitasking, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Capability to work independently and cooperatively under tight deadlines with multiple assignments.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming in Python.
- Knowledge of PySide within Maya.
- Understanding of Maya API in Python.
- Experience with C++ is advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
The weekly pay range for this role is $1875 to $2400 CAD based on a standard 40-hour workweek. Exact compensation depends on experience, role responsibilities, and internal equity considerations.
