Job description
Overview
This opportunity involves a renewable 3-year contract focused on providing expert technical input to reduce risks and advance development in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methodologies aiming to boost field production and maximize potential. The role includes leading technical studies internally and managing external expert support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and propose programs for acquiring data essential to the progression of EOR initiatives.
- Lead and provide technical guidance for EOR projects through all phases of maturation.
- Mentor junior engineers in advanced EOR modeling techniques and strategies.
- Offer expert assistance in constructing and maintaining reservoir simulation models tailored for EOR projects.
- Devise reservoir modeling approaches and workflows that are technically robust and timely for business needs.
- Coordinate and lead significant external studies supporting EOR development across ALS reservoirs.
- Create high-quality presentations to effectively communicate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Tasks and Activities
- Operate independently in dynamic simulation fields, focusing on EOR modeling employing Eclipse and IX software platforms.
- Lead specialized studies to develop reservoir simulation models for EOR deployment.
- Actively participate in and support EOR pilot projects and their integration into field development plans including monitoring activities.
- Possess broad expertise in multiple EOR techniques with a preference for experience in low API gravity or low permeability EOR applications.
- Formulate EOR deployment tactics from pilot projects to commercial scale, ensuring all initiatives are backed by substantial business cases.
- Independently propose, advance, and manage work programs aimed at field testing and deployment on viable timelines.
- Oversee and cooperate with external contractors engaged in EOR evaluation and risk mitigation projects.
- Maintain and drive progress on the EOR roadmap, steering projects through defined decision milestones.
- Contribute to critical processes like annual reserve assessments, Long Range Business Plans (LRBP), and Run of Field operations (RoFo) with EOR perspectives.
- Serve as the simulation expert for EOR strategies supporting the North Oil Company (NOC).
- Lead efforts on maturing EOR technology trials and monitoring strategies.
- Deliver validated production data supporting economic assessments of projects, wells, and studies.
- Recommend and support reservoir data collection programs including fluids, SCAL tests, well testing, logs, and core sampling to underpin EOR studies.
- Represent NOC in technical presentations and validations with both internal teams and external partners.
- Take responsibility for producing independently comprehensive and professional documentation and presentation materials for various audiences.
Qualifications
- Academic credentials including a Master's or Bachelor's degree in geosciences or a related technical field.
- A minimum of 10 years of reservoir engineering experience within the oil and gas industry, including at least 3 years specifically devoted to Enhanced Oil Recovery roles particularly involving polymers, surfactants, or Water Alternating Gas (WAG) techniques.
- Proven ability to work autonomously making confident technical decisions without oversight.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate teamwork and technical delivery internally and externally.
- Strong technical acumen with confidence to lead and participate in complex technical discussions.
Competencies
- Effective delegation and communication skills.
- Adaptability in handling complex challenges.
- Learning agility combined with innovation drive.
- Emotional intelligence and cultural awareness.
- Commitment to developing others and knowledge retention.
- Talent development with future readiness.
- Promotion of sustainability aligned with NOC values.
- Encouraging collaboration and community spirit.
- Focus on safety, technical excellence, and results.
- Leadership by example embodying NOC principles.
- Strategic purpose setting and company planning.
- Accountability and continuous improvement culture.
- Stakeholder-focused thinking and action.
