Role Summary

We are looking for a skilled Senior Radiographer to lead and conduct diagnostic imaging exams, assist radiologists and clinical teams, uphold imaging quality and radiation safety, and mentor radiography personnel. The ideal applicant will have advanced technical expertise, excellent patient care skills, sound clinical decision-making, and a drive for quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic radiographic exams following approved clinical protocols and professional guidelines.
• Conduct a wide spectrum of exams matching qualifications, scope of practice, and department assignments.
• Review exam requests and clinical details to determine imaging needs.
• Confirm patient identity, exam specifics, relevant medical history, and clinical indications prior to imaging.
• Assess pregnancy status and safety considerations when relevant.
• Communicate procedures clearly to patients and address their concerns.
• Deliver compassionate and respectful patient-centered care throughout imaging.
• Position patients accurately and safely to acquire diagnostic-quality images.
• Choose suitable imaging methods, exposure parameters, protocols, and equipment settings within professional limits.
• Operate radiographic and related imaging devices safely and competently.
• Conduct exams per departmental protocols and radiologist directives.
• Assess images for quality, positioning, completeness, artifacts, and diagnostic value.
• Repeat imaging only when clinically necessary, following radiation safety rules.
• Identify technically inadequate or noteworthy findings and escalate to radiologists or relevant clinicians timely.
• Support imaging for trauma, emergency, inpatient, outpatient, pediatric, elderly, mobility-limited, or vulnerable patients.
• Adjust imaging techniques based on patient condition, mobility, urgency, and exam needs.
• Assist safely with patient transfers, positioning, immobilization, and movements as needed.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, radiologists, and clinical teams for complex or urgent diagnostics.
• Provide mobile and bedside imaging support if applicable.
• Participate in emergency and after-hours imaging shifts as required.
• Ensure smooth workflow across imaging rooms and areas.
• Prioritize exams based on clinical urgency and departmental procedures.
• Monitor patient wait times, exam turnaround, and workflow delays.
• Accurately and timely enter exam data into clinical and imaging information systems.
• Maintain accurate records of patients, exams, and imaging outputs.
• Ensure images are properly labeled, processed, stored, and transmitted to appropriate systems.
• Work effectively with PACS, RIS, electronic health records, and other imaging software.
• Document contrast administration and related processes clearly when applicable.
• Follow established protocols for contrast safety, screening, administration, monitoring, and incident reporting if authorized.
• Observe patients for adverse reactions during and post-contrast procedures.
• Respond promptly to clinical deteriorations or emergencies and activate relevant protocols.
• Uphold radiation protection principles for patients, staff, visitors, and the public.
• Apply justification, optimization, and dose minimization in radiographic exams.
• Use appropriate shielding, positioning, exposure, and other radiation protection techniques.
• Monitor radiation dose indicators; investigate anomalies per department procedures.
• Engage in radiation safety audits, reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Comply with relevant radiation protection laws, professional standards, and institutional policies.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and report faults or performance concerns promptly.
• Participate in quality control and assurance programs for imaging devices.
• Coordinate with Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, vendors, and technical teams on equipment performance.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of imaging rooms, accessories, positioning aids, and related tools.
• Implement infection control and prevention measures for imaging equipment and patient-contact surfaces.
• Apply proper cleaning and disinfection between exams.
• Respect patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and data security standards.
• Report incidents, near misses, equipment problems, and safety concerns through established channels.
• Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions as needed.
• Support clinical audits and quality improvements in the imaging unit.
• Monitor adherence to departmental SOPs, imaging protocols, quality, and professional standards.
• Review, update, and contribute to imaging protocols, procedures, checklists, and guidelines.
• Assist in implementing new imaging protocols, technologies, and equipment.
• Engage in equipment acceptance testing, commissioning, validation, and implementation.
• Assist with service planning, equipment replacement reviews, and technology assessments.
• Track equipment utilization, downtime, exam volumes, and operational metrics.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant must possess substantial experience in diagnostic radiography, medical imaging, hospital or outpatient radiology, emergency imaging, or a similar clinical imaging setting aligned with the modalities and exams undertaken by the organization.

• Demonstrated expertise in safely performing diagnostic radiographic exams with precision.
• Strong knowledge of radiographic positioning, exposure techniques, image evaluation, and quality enhancement.
• Comprehensive understanding of radiation protection and dose optimization.
• Experience with digital radiography and contemporary imaging technologies.
• Familiarity with PACS, RIS, electronic medical records, and imaging workflow management systems.
• Excellent patient care, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage effectively with patients across different ages, conditions, mobility, and communication abilities.
• Sound clinical judgment and ability to identify when escalation is necessary.
