Job description
About Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC)
SQC is a pioneering full-stack quantum computing company aiming to create the world’s first commercial-scale quantum computer, alongside quantum-enhanced AI and simulation solutions currently in use by customers. Leveraging over 25 years of technological expertise, SQC utilizes an exclusive silicon qubit manufacturing process with atomic-scale precision (0.13 nanometers), delivering processors with exceptional algorithmic fidelity that positions it ahead in the global quantum computing race.
Currently, SQC's commercial quantum products, including the Watermelon AI system applied across energy, telecommunications, and finance sectors, and the Quantum Twins simulation platform, which accelerates molecule and material discovery, are actively generating revenue.
Role Overview
The Senior Quantum Engineer will spearhead advanced benchmarking and optimization for SQC’s scalable silicon multi-qubit processors. This role involves leading complex experiments from conceptual design to detailed execution, such as algorithmic benchmarking and quantum error correction (QEC) demonstrations. Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams, the engineer will influence processor performance criteria and validation processes for current and future device generations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead experimental protocols characterizing multi-qubit processor stability and performance, including complex benchmarking.
- Implement quantum algorithms and conduct cutting-edge quantum error correction experiments.
- Establish performance indicators and validation frameworks aligned with roadmap objectives for current and forthcoming processors.
- Drive project-focused development of innovative device and measurement capabilities.
- Compare processor experimental results with theoretical models and existing literature benchmarks.
- Contribute to SQC’s technical strategy and maintain awareness of evolving trends and technologies in quantum computing and QEC.
Candidate Profile
- Required Qualifications: PhD in physics, quantum engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent industrial experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with quantum processors exceeding 10 qubits in academic or industry settings.
- Practical experience conducting quantum error correction or benchmarking experiments.
- Proven success in managing experimental research projects from conception to completion, supported by scholarly publications or similar industrial achievements.
- Proficiency in Python programming for experimental control and data analysis.
- Strong skills in analyzing and interpreting complex experimental data.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying advanced technical information to varied audiences.
- Capacity to lead and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams sharing project ownership.
- Preferred Experience: Background in spin qubit technologies in silicon or comparable semiconductor qubit platforms.
- Experience with RF measurement techniques and microwave engineering.
- Experience in mentoring or supervising junior researchers.
Recruitment Process
The hiring procedure includes 3 to 4 interviews assessing eligibility, technical abilities, and alignment with company values. Successful candidates are subject to background screening including police checks, work eligibility verification, and credential confirmation. Contact will only be made when mutual suitability is established.
Equal Opportunity Statement
SQC is committed to diversity and encourages applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may not fulfill every listed criterion but can contribute meaningfully to the role.
Export Control Notice
This position may involve access to controlled technologies, making employment contingent on compliance with export laws, including nationality and residency checks and potential licensing requirements.
About SQC's Heritage
Founded by renowned physicist Michelle Simmons, a pioneer in atomic electronics, and chaired by semiconductor industry leader Simon Segars, SQC combines in-house quantum processor manufacturing with rapid iteration capabilities, giving it a competitive edge in quantum computing development.
SQC's culture rests on accountability under the philosophy "Every Atom Counts," inviting passionate candidates to join in shaping the future of computing.
