About Silicon Quantum Computing
Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) leads global development of the first commercial-scale quantum computers while offering quantum-enhanced AI and simulation products to customers today. Leveraging over 25 years of technical excellence, SQC manufactures atomic qubits in silicon with unparalleled 0.13 nanometer precision — the most exact semiconductor fabrication worldwide — delivering world-class algorithmic fidelity and a competitive edge in the quantum computing industry.
Currently, SQC’s products are commercially operational and revenue-generating. Their quantum-enhanced AI platform, Watermelon, achieves superior outcomes in sectors like energy, telecom, and finance. Additionally, Quantum Twins, a simulation platform, advances material and molecular discovery by accurately modeling quantum systems.
Role Overview
SQC is establishing a dedicated Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function, seeking an FP&A Manager to lead this effort. Reporting to the Finance Director and stationed in Sydney, you will be responsible for developing and managing SQC's financial models, including the annual budget, rolling forecasts, and Board-level cost monitoring under both AASB and US GAAP frameworks. You will collaborate closely with department heads in research, engineering, and operations to translate operational data into actionable financial insights within a fast-growing, technologically complex organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the creation, implementation, and upkeep of the company’s core financial models such as budgets, forecasts, and long-term plans adhering to dual reporting standards (AASB and US GAAP).
- Manage monthly management reporting cycles, delivering variance analysis, KPI dashboards, and comprehensive commentary for senior leadership including the Finance Director, CFO, and Executive Team.
- Partner with research, engineering, and operations leaders to build and monitor cost centre budgets, track expenditures against plans, and provide accurate forecasting updates.
- Develop capitalization expenditure and R&D cost models to support tax incentive claims and grant applications.
- Construct scenario and sensitivity analyses to underpin Board reports, funding decisions, and strategic initiatives.
- Design and implement FP&A workflows, templates, and reporting schedules suitable for a rapidly scaling organization, establishing the function from scratch.
- Support the implementation and configuration of NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (EPM) systems with Finance and external partners.
- Prepare detailed ad hoc financial analyses and business cases that evaluate cost-benefit, ROI, and investment opportunities for executive decision-making.
- Serve as a critical interface between Finance and operational teams, maintaining detailed financial data inputs and delivering summarized insights to management.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience in FP&A, financial modelling, or corporate finance, preferably within scaling technology or deep-tech enterprises.
- Advanced expertise in Excel, capable of creating complex financial models independently rather than merely updating existing templates.
- Proven background managing budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting; experience with dual reporting standards (US GAAP and AASB) is advantageous.
- Confident communicator adept at translating detailed financial data into strategic insights for senior leaders and team managers.
- Highly detail-oriented with a readiness to handle data collection, model development, reconciliation, and presentation responsibilities.
- Comfortable building FP&A processes and infrastructure in an environment without prior frameworks or practices.
- Experience or aptitude to quickly learn NetSuite software.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, commerce, or related disciplines. Candidates with an engineering undergraduate degree and an MBA are also well-suited. Professional certifications like CA, CPA, or CFA are desirable but not mandatory.
Additional Information
SQC is an equal opportunity employer promoting diversity and encourages applications from candidates who may not meet every listed criterion but are enthusiastic about the role. Employment may require compliance with export control regulations; eligibility assessments based on nationality or residency may apply.
SQC was founded by pioneer physicist Michelle Simmons, known for breakthroughs in atomic electronics and the world’s first single-atom transistor. The Chair, Simon Segars, former Arm CEO, is a semiconductor industry luminary. The company offers a high-accountability, impact-driven culture focused on innovation in computing’s next frontier.
