Senior Python Engineer - Backend and Data

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Python Engineer to architect, develop, and maintain robust backend systems that drive data-centric applications. This role involves crafting secure, efficient APIs and microservices, managing backend services optimized for dataset delivery, and overseeing comprehensive data transformation pipelines from ingestion through distribution. The ideal candidate produces clean production-quality code and takes full accountability for testing, deployment, and operational reliability.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, create, and sustain RESTful APIs and microservices using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, and Django.
• Develop asynchronous, high-concurrency backend services leveraging asyncio, optimizing input/output operations for maximal performance.
• Build scalable internal web frameworks and drive their deployment to production environments.
• Collaborate closely with frontend teams to ensure seamless integration of server-side logic with user-facing features.
• Write well-structured, efficient, and documented code adhering to best coding practices and standards.
• Implement security measures including authentication, authorization, and encryption across microservices.
• Secure APIs through standards like OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API gateways.
• Develop backend data-serving systems utilizing APIs and other interfaces.
• Create data access layers using ORMs such as SQLAlchemy and Django ORM, managing models, CRUD operations, complex queries, and transactions.
• Design and optimize database schemas for both relational databases and NoSQL stores, tuning queries for rapid and reliable data access.
• Establish and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for data cleaning, aggregation, and enrichment, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
• Work with big data and streaming platforms, including Spark, Kafka, and Hadoop.
• Construct and manage CI/CD pipelines enabling automated testing and deployment.
• Develop unit and integration tests; analyze and resolve production issues using logging and profiling tools.
• Use Git for version control, including branching strategies, code reviews, and pull requests.
• Prepare clear and comprehensive technical documentation and contribute actively in code reviews.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technical discipline.
• Over 5 years of professional experience developing Python backend applications.
• Extensive hands-on expertise with FastAPI and/or Flask, with working familiarity in Django.
• Proven knowledge of asynchronous programming and concurrency using asyncio.
• In-depth understanding of microservices architecture.
• Experience securing APIs using OAuth, JWT, API gateways.
• Strong SQL proficiency and familiarity with ORMs such as SQLAlchemy or Django ORM.
• Competence with both relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra) databases.
• Experience designing and operating ETL/data transformation pipelines.
• Awareness of big data technologies like Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, and data warehousing principles.
• Proven capability in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Competence with Shell scripting for automation tasks.
• Strong collaborative development skills using Git workflows.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

Preferred Expertise

• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes.
• Understanding of data governance, compliance mandates, and data security best practices.
• Exposure to regulated industries such as banking or fintech is an asset.
