Senior Python Developer

About the Role

Our client, a financial services organization based in Dublin, is recruiting an experienced Senior Python Software Engineer. This role involves spearheading complex technical projects, shaping architectural strategy, and delivering robust, scalable, and secure software solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of advanced software solutions encompassing backend, frontend, and cloud platforms.
• Enhance system scalability, resilience, and maintainability by driving architectural advancements.
• Manage incident investigations, conduct root cause analyses, and implement preventive measures.
• Collaborate across multiple teams to solve challenging technical problems involving systems and service delivery.
• Mentor engineering colleagues, promoting coding standards and facilitating technical growth.
• Participate in design reviews and influence long-term engineering strategies that align with business goals.
• Assess and integrate new technologies and tools to enhance engineering productivity and effectiveness.
• Work closely with product, design, QA, and operations teams to ensure seamless feature deployment.
• Effectively communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders including leadership.
• Drive improvements in engineering practices, tooling, deployment workflows, and standards.

Required Experience and Skills

• At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, including senior or leadership roles.
• Advanced backend development proficiency in Python with frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Hands-on experience developing APIs, data modeling, and scalable distributed systems.
• Competency in frontend technologies, notably React and TypeScript.
• Proven track record in designing and deploying cloud-native or serverless applications within AWS environments.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and managing cloud infrastructures in modern engineering teams.
• Strong aptitude in creating secure, maintainable, and high-performance software architectures.
• Ability to lead technical projects and contribute to cross-team delivery efforts.
• Familiarity with engineering best practices, including code governance, reviews, and quality assurance processes.
• Collaborative experience working with diverse teams to align technical solutions with business priorities.
• Strong problem-solving skills with capacity to resolve complex technical issues sustainably.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) enhancing code quality and delivery.
• Knowledge of automation tools such as GitHub Actions for builds and deployments.
• Understanding of DevOps methodologies and infrastructure automation.
• Awareness of software security best practices and performance optimization strategies.
• Proven ability to facilitate inter-team technical discussions and influence engineering decisions.
• Background in regulated sectors or financial services is a plus.
• Experience within insurance or reinsurance industries is advantageous but not mandatory.

Educational Background

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
