Senior Product Manager, APIs

About the Role

This position is for a Senior Product Manager specializing in APIs, based in Ireland, working remotely. The role entails full ownership of a technical product domain, covering everything from initial strategy and architecture decisions to rollout and ongoing customer experience enhancement. You'll collaborate closely with engineering team leads and staff engineers to shape the technical direction and product design.

This role blends traditional product management duties with hands-on technical exploration, including prototyping and coding to test ideas and minimize uncertainty. You will be responsible for API products and integrations, ensuring robust API contracts, compatibility, developer usability, and reliable adoption.

Collaboration with operational experts will be key to gain insights into workflows, identify root causes of issues, and prioritize solutions that effectively address significant business challenges. Primary Responsibilities

• Manage the product domain end-to-end, defining strategy, overseeing technical direction, ensuring delivery, driving adoption, and maintaining a superior customer and internal team experience.
• Work in partnership with engineering leadership on architectural and design decisions that influence long-term product strategies.
• Form and share well-founded technical opinions, actively contribute to design reviews, and engage as an engineering peer.
• Create and test prototypes or functional code to reduce risks, validate hypotheses, and implement smaller features where appropriate.
• Lead API product and integration experience management including contract definition, versioning, backward compatibility, and developer enablement.
• Engage directly with operational teams to understand real-world processes and identify root causes of persistent problems.
• Prioritize product enhancements based on objective customer and operational pain points instead of symptom fixes.
• Champion product adoption post-launch, monitoring ongoing effective usage and value delivery.
• Collaborate with payroll, tax, and other operational experts to conduct thorough research and translate complex requirements into practical product solutions.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with business operations, sales, and engineering teams to ensure alignment with critical business needs.
• Document all product decisions, technical rationale, proposals, and specifications clearly and comprehensively.
• Promote a culture of transparency and open challenge by making product thinking and assumptions accessible to stakeholders.
• Utilize data-driven methods, experimentation, customer feedback, and operational insights for continuous product improvements.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Confirmed track record as a Product Manager in high-growth, technically complex B2B environments.
• Experience in complete product ownership lifecycle from strategy through delivery to continuous improvement.
• Deep technical understanding enabling engagement in architecture, API design, software engineering discussions.
• Proficiency in Cursor and/or Claude Code with demonstrated ability to build, debug, and ship functional code or prototypes autonomously.
• Domain experience in payroll, HR, benefits, fintech or similarly complex operational environments is highly valued.
• Strong capabilities in prioritization and strategic decision-making for product scope and execution.
• Proven ability to independently deliver impactful results improving products and user experiences.
• Excellent product design and UX judgment focused on intuitive, dependable, and effective solutions.
• Hands-on experience managing API products, including integration, developer experience, contracts, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with preference for resolving root causes over temporary fixes.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams.
• Strong written proficiency to document complex product and technical details effectively.
• Fluent business-level English, both written and spoken.
• Self-driven, able to operate autonomously under uncertain conditions in fast-paced settings.
• Prior remote and asynchronous work experience is an advantage.
• Experience incorporating AI technologies into customer-facing products is beneficial.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $59,900 to $168,500 USD annually, dependent on factors such as location, skills, experience, training, business needs, and market conditions.
