About Chargebee
Chargebee is a premier provider of billing and monetization solutions that empower businesses with recurring revenue models. It simplifies revenue and finance operations, delivers actionable insights, and fuels business growth. Trusted by a wide range of companies, including Zapier, LegalZoom, and Freshworks, Chargebee has earned recognition as a leader in subscription management. The company is headquartered in North Bethesda, Maryland, with teams primarily in India, the U.S., and Europe.
Team Overview
The Platform Product & Engineering teams at Chargebee ensure the technical platform and infrastructure meet the needs of businesses running critical revenue operations. This platform must be robust, extensible, performant, secure, and scalable to handle billions in transactions across multiple currencies with enterprise-level reliability and service standards. Platform Product Managers drive consistent delivery of these expectations by collaborating closely with engineering and cross-functional operations teams.
Role Summary
Joining the platform product team means contributing to the strategic modernization of Chargebee’s platform. This initiative involves building a microservices architecture with loosely coupled capabilities across product lines, aiming for higher throughput, lower latency, and enhanced service levels. The modern platform runs on a cloud fabric and includes transactional components, enterprise data and analytics, machine learning applications, observability, and tools to boost developer productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning and prioritization within your platform domain, define and track key performance metrics, and collaborate with engineers to deliver feature functionality aligned with the roadmap.
- Focus on one or more domains such as APIs, core platform services (IAM, queue/job management, auditing, search, notifications), service frameworks, data management, cloud fabric, path-to-production workflows, observability, or platform-wide initiatives like security and governance.
- Engage internal teams and, where applicable, external customers to gather requirements and feedback via discussions, presentations, and pilot programs, translating input into detailed and actionable requirements.
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for your assigned features—from discovery, through development and launch, to iterative improvements—adhering to roadmaps.
- Influence near-term roadmap decisions within your domain alongside senior PMs and ensure alignment with overall platform strategy.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to solve technical and operational challenges faced by Chargebee's ecosystem including developers and merchants.
- Effectively communicate progress, trade-offs, and delivered value to stakeholders and teams.
- Conduct technical product discovery at the feature level, balancing customer needs and technical constraints to produce sound requirements and manage prioritization.
- Develop detailed product requirements and acceptance criteria within Agile frameworks (Kanban or Scrum), and maintain ownership of your roadmap segment.
- Partner with analytics teams to measure relevant input/output metrics and report on feature progress.
- Collaborate with program management for operational processes and phased rollout planning.
- Support service-level objectives (SLAs and SLOs) related to your feature area.
- Work autonomously within a matrix organization, resolving blockers and building strong working relationships across engineering and operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant domain knowledge in APIs (REST, GraphQL), streaming, OLTP/OLAP data systems, service frameworks, CI/CD or related areas, with the ability to rapidly acquire expertise.
- Strong systems thinking abilities to understand how components integrate to form features and broader systems.
- 5 to 8+ years of hands-on platform product management experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong listening capabilities.
- Experience or strong adaptability to working in remote, distributed, multi-time-zone companies in fast-changing environments.
- Comfort handling ambiguous situations with guidance from senior PMs.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Background in ecommerce, SaaS, or complex distributed cloud software applications; familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, or similar technologies is advantageous.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams extending beyond direct reporting lines.
- Technical background via prior roles such as software developer or SDET is a plus.
- Higher education degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
Benefits
- Comprehensive health and wellness plans supporting physical and mental well-being.
- Financial security programs promoting long-term stability.
- Flexible work-life balance options tailored to individual needs.
