Job description

About The Irish Times Group

The Irish Times Group is Ireland's foremost independent quality news publisher, evolving from a six-day print newspaper to a full seven-day multi-platform news provider. The organisation leads the market in subscriptions, audience engagement, and digital innovation, delivering trusted journalism and innovative media solutions. It manages a diverse portfolio including Irish Examiner, The Echo, RecruitIreland.com, MyHome.ie, and other major Irish digital brands.

Role Overview

We invite applications for a Senior Product Data Analyst to specialize in our subscriptions and commercial product lines. In this pivotal role, you will partner closely with the Commercial Product and Technology teams, along with Digital Subscriptions, Home Delivery, Customer Care, and Media Solutions departments. Your focus will be on thoroughly analyzing and optimizing the subscriber journey — from acquisition and conversion to engagement, retention, and lifetime value. Combining rigorous technical skills with commercial insight, you will translate complex data into actionable recommendations that improve strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main analytics partner for the Commercial product team.
  • Map and analyze the entire subscription funnel, including traffic, paywall interactions, registrations, conversions, engagement metrics, renewals, retention, and churn.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis on factors such as pricing, introductory offers, promotions, vouchers, product mix, and acquisition cohorts, weighing both short-term conversions and longer-term customer value.
  • Develop and embed actionable metrics like Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) and Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) into commercial decision-making processes.
  • Utilize subscriber engagement data to support strategies aimed at reducing churn and improving retention.
  • Oversee and refine reporting on dynamic paywalls, conversions, and other product initiatives, supporting testing and experimentation efforts.
  • Collaborate with acquisition and marketing teams to evaluate channel effectiveness, campaign success, referral attribution, conversion rates, and customer quality.
  • Create and enhance Power BI dashboards, write SQL queries, explore commercial questions directly through data analysis, and identify gaps in current data sets or reporting structures.
  • Work closely with BI developers, data engineers, product managers, technology, sales, and finance teams when specialized analytics input is needed.
  • Proactively track trends, highlight risks and opportunities, and communicate clear, strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • Holds a degree or equivalent experience in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or other quantitative disciplines.
  • Possesses over five years of professional experience in data or analytics roles, with demonstrated senior analyst expertise.
  • Proficient in Excel and SQL, skilled at managing and analyzing large-scale data sets.
  • Experience with Power BI or comparable BI tools for developing and improving analytic reporting.
  • Hands-on experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms.
  • Proven capability in independently scoping and delivering both complex ad-hoc analyses and sustained analytical projects.
  • Excellent communicator skilled at data storytelling and presenting complex findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Self-driven, able to challenge assumptions constructively and convert analysis into strategic recommendations.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Background in subscription-based, membership, SaaS, telecommunications, financial services, or other recurring revenue industries.
  • Experience analyzing acquisition funnels, conversion metrics, retention and churn patterns, pricing, offers, ARPU, or Customer Lifetime Value.
  • Familiarity with product analytics, commercial reporting, or customer lifecycle studies.
  • Experience supporting A/B testing, experimentation, or test-and-learn initiatives.
  • Exposure to digital publishing, media, or news sectors.
  • Knowledge of GA4, BigQuery, Python, or similar analytical technologies.

The Opportunity

This role is well suited for a proactive individual who takes initiative and thrives in ambiguity. You will be expected to determine appropriate analytical strategies for complex commercial questions and translate findings into business directives. As part of our broader Analytics team, you will hold accountability for commercial insights covering acquisition to customer longevity.

This position offers a chance to influence decisions at the intersection of data, customer experience, product management, and commercial strategy within an innovative media environment. It combines technical challenges with high visibility and meaningful impact.

Additional Information & Benefits

The Irish Times Group has a hybrid working policy. Our employee benefits include health insurance contributions, pension contributions, sick leave coverage, parental leave, Irish Times premium digital subscriptions, income protection, corporate gym discounts, free digital GP access, and life assurance.
