About The Irish Times Group

The Irish Times Group is Ireland's foremost independent news publisher, evolving from traditional print to multi-platform news delivery with a prominent market position in subscriptions, audience engagement, and digital innovation. Its portfolio includes leading Irish brands like the Irish Examiner, RecruitIreland.com, and MyHome.ie, among others.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Product Data Analyst specializing in our app products (both mobile and web). This senior, hands-on analytical role focuses extensively on app performance insights, customer behavior analysis, and leveraging data to uncover growth opportunities. You will collaborate closely with Product and Technology teams to interpret product metrics, measure impact of new features, proactively identify challenges and growth prospects, and deliver clear recommendations based on your analyses. Reporting to the Analytics Manager and embedded within the central Group Analytics team, you will focus on apps while contributing to wider analytics projects across subscriptions, advertising, and audience metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead analytical partner for mobile and web app product streams.
  • Analyze app performance, including customer journeys, feature adoption, conversion rates, retention, and engagement.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges and new opportunities without awaiting instruction.
  • Assist product teams in defining measurement strategies for new features and releases.
  • Assess whether product modifications achieve intended outcomes.
  • Collaborate with technology teams on analytics instrumentation and event tracking.
  • Investigate anomalies and unexpected changes in product metrics and tracking data.
  • Determine root causes of data issues across apps, data pipelines, datasets, or reports.
  • Validate analytics after product releases or technical fixes.
  • Execute complex ad-hoc data analysis and write SQL queries to interact with underlying datasets.
  • Develop and enhance BI reporting where beneficial.
  • Identify data gaps and contribute to improving analytical models.
  • Present findings and actionable insights clearly to product teams and senior stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
  • Over 5 years in professional data or analytics roles, including senior analyst experience.
  • Proficient in SQL and experienced in querying and managing large analytical datasets.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards and analytical solutions using Power BI or similar BI tools.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms like Snowflake or equivalents for data querying and analysis.
  • Ability to independently scope and structure analytical projects from ambiguous business questions.
  • Track record of delivering complex ad-hoc analyses and developing recurring reporting solutions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and data storytelling competence.
  • Confident engaging with senior-level stakeholders and explaining complex insights in accessible language.
  • Proactive, ownership-driven approach to identifying risks, questions, and opportunities in data.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with mobile app or consumer digital product analytics.
  • Familiarity with iOS or Android app analytics.
  • Knowledge of product analytics concepts like funnels, customer journeys, engagement, and feature adoption.
  • Experience with event tracking and analytics implementation.
  • Involvement in app release analytics quality assurance.
  • Expertise in conversion, retention, or subscription product metrics analysis.
  • History of collaborating closely with Product Managers and development teams.
  • Understanding of A/B testing, experimentation, and test-and-learn methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of GA4, Firebase, Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery.
  • Basic skills in Python or other analytical programming languages.

Technology Environment

The analytical infrastructure relies on Snowflake, Power BI, SQL, and Excel. Familiarity with cloud platforms like Google Cloud and BigQuery as well as Google Analytics and Firebase is advantageous.

Work Environment

We operate within a dynamic digital media context where audience engagement, subscription conversion, and advertising revenue are critical. Analysts are expected to understand how user behavior spans across these business areas, making data-driven insights impactful. Prior media experience is not mandatory, but an interest in the intersections of journalism, technology, and digital audience behavior will be beneficial.

Additional Information

We prize self-starters who take initiative, ask intelligent questions, challenge assumptions, and communicate confidently across technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will receive support from Analytics, BI, and Data Engineering teams but should be comfortable independently resolving many analytical challenges.

Why Join Us?

This role offers a chance to lead analytics for a vital component of our digital products while staying connected to the broader analytics function. Influence feature measurement, deepen understanding of customer behavior, and contribute to shaping our app experiences. If you are driven by digital content, storytelling, and the future of journalism, this role allows you to generate meaningful impact with high-visibility projects.
