About Jurong Port
Jurong Port is a versatile multipurpose port renowned for proficient handling of general, bulk, and container cargo. The company manages operations including the Tuas Offshore Marine Centre and Lighter Terminals located in Penjuru and Marina South. In addition to its Singapore base, Jurong Port has strategic joint ventures in China and Indonesia. In 2016, its combined terminals managed nearly 35 million tons of general and bulk cargo and 560,000 TEUs of container throughput.
Role Overview and Work Setup
This position is based full-time in an office setting, with the incumbent expected to provide on-site assistance to the Yard Planning Team and attend to operational needs within the port as necessary.
Storage and Yard Planning
- Plan and assign appropriate transit storage locations for incoming vessels.
- Inspect warehouses and open yard areas to locate suitable spaces for cargo discharge and loading activities.
- Collaborate with Berthing and GCO Operations to allocate storage areas within 400 meters of assigned berths to optimize usage of yard and warehouse space.
- Update daily cargo storage plans following the discharge of vessels.
- Analyze and assess cargo storage utilization to enhance efficiency in planning.
Short-Term Lease Management
- Organize, designate, and monitor spaces leased on a short-term basis.
- Close lease applications following cargo delivery or shipment.
- Calculate leased area sizes and prepare weekly or monthly rental billing for tenants.
Operational and Team Leadership
- Create standard operating procedures (SOPs), provide training for shift officers, and promote skill development within the team.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs among shift teams, addressing manpower or disciplinary concerns before escalating issues to management.
- Authorize and issue manual charges for unauthorized overnight parking of chassis as reported by night shift personnel.
- Investigate appeals from port users and recommend actions to management.
- Review and close space requests for cargo stuffing and unstuffing activities in the JP-Online system.
System and Administrative Duties
- Handle EHR administrative tasks and support the Yard Planning Team’s operations.
- Develop staff rosters and organize overtime scheduling, subject to managerial approval.
- Liaise with the Digitalization team regarding SMART system issues and participate in User Acceptance Testing when required.
Job Requirements
- Possess a Diploma in Supply Chain, Logistics, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
- Have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in shipping, maritime, or logistics sectors, ideally with direct involvement in storage/yard planning and port operations.
- Demonstrate strong IT skills and familiarity with operational and administrative software systems.
- Exhibit excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with operations teams and external stakeholders.
- Hold a valid Class 3 driving license due to travel requirements within port operational zones.
