Senior Policy Planner

Position Overview

This full-time, permanent position based in Rangiora offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner to contribute significantly to shaping the development of one of New Zealand's fastest-growing districts. Join the Planning Strategy Team at Waimakariri District Council, playing a pivotal role in long-range initiatives and policy frameworks guiding district growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of policies and strategic growth planning projects.
• Manage multifaceted planning projects from conception through to delivery.
• Support additional strategic land use planning and growth initiatives.
• Conduct research and analyze data, including growth modeling, to underpin evidence-driven policy formulation.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with tangata whenua, regional partners, community stakeholders, and others.
• Offer expert planning advice to Council members, management teams, and external agencies.
• Prepare comprehensive reports, deliver presentations, and engage in public consultation forums.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a tertiary qualification in Planning, Resource Management, or a related discipline.
• Membership or eligibility for membership with the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
• At least five years of policy planning experience, preferably within local government, consultancy, or legislative environments.
• In-depth understanding of the Resource Management Act and local government planning frameworks.
• Strong skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, and clear communication.
• Proven ability to analyze complex information and translate findings into actionable planning outcomes.
• A collaborative mindset with a commitment to delivering impactful community-focused results.
