Job description
Role Overview
Join NVIDIA as a Senior Network Engineer in the Global Backbone Engineering team that fuels the DGX Cloud—a distributed platform for AI training and research. This role focuses on designing and managing the extensive, high-capacity global network infrastructure that connects NVIDIA's AI resources with cloud providers worldwide, ensuring top performance for intensive AI tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive design and architecture of NVIDIA's worldwide backbone network, covering inter-data-center links, point-of-presence (POP) designs, long-distance optical transport, and peering strategies.
- Operate and troubleshoot the complete backbone network layers, spanning from optical systems to IP/MPLS and traffic engineering protocols.
- Automate network processes end-to-end including circuit provisioning, capacity monitoring, and failure detection systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive expertise in backbone networking protocols and technologies such as MPLS, SR-MPLS, BGP-LU, RSVP-TE, IS-IS, OSPF, MP-BGP, BFD, QoS, MACsec, and network flow monitoring standards like IPFIX/NetFlow.
- Practical experience with backbone optical transport solutions, including DWDM, coherent optics, active/passive optical systems, OTN, and high-speed 400G/800G long-haul circuits.
- Solid background in peering and internet exchange management, including private network interconnects, transit management, IXP connections, and scalable BGP policy/traffic engineering.
- Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting for automating network infrastructure, developing tools, capacity planning, and alerting mechanisms.
- Familiarity with backbone-grade routing hardware such as Juniper MX/PTX and Cisco ASR/NCS platforms or equivalents.
- Proven track record in architecting, building, and operating multi-continent backbone or WAN networks supporting thousands of devices and millions of data flows.
- Experience optimizing networks for high performance, availability, and scale in multisite international environments.
- Excellent communication and presentation capabilities.
- Minimum 8 years in network engineering roles focused on backbone, WAN, or carrier-grade environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Additional Value
- Experience building automation tools for backbone provisioning, monitoring, and capacity management.
- Background working at hyperscalers or large ISPs/carriers, including expertise with traffic engineering and ECMP optimization across global POPs.
- Passion for advancing networking technologies such as segment routing, intent-based networking, and applying AIOps in network operations.
