Role Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in utilities will play a crucial role in executing and managing engineering assignments related to mechanical utility systems. This position involves applying established engineering principles, performing calculations, carrying out tests, and solving novel problems by adapting existing methods. The role requires independent work with minimal supervision, delivering high-quality design elements within budget and schedule constraints, and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and oversee moderate components of larger engineering projects focused on mechanical utilities.
  • Accumulate and analyze engineering data following established processes.
  • Conduct detailed engineering tasks involving calculations and routine tests.
  • Innovate solutions by modifying standard procedures to resolve emerging challenges.
  • Recognize inconsistencies in results and implement necessary corrections.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers.
  • Complete key design elements independently, ensuring adherence to budget and timings.
  • Develop and sustain technical documentation such as design calculations, specifications, and reports.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations applicable to mechanical utility systems.
  • Collaborate across teams including operations, maintenance, and project management to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts and supervise testing protocols to verify design soundness and function.
  • Participate actively in project planning and scheduling for timely deliverables.
  • Advocate improvements in processes and system efficiencies based on performance assessments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 10 to 15 years of professional experience in mechanical utilities or related engineering domains.
  • Proficient in engineering calculations, design software, and CAD tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical codes, standards, and regulations such as ASME, ANSI, and local building codes.
  • Experience with authoring technical documents, calculations, and engineering reports.
  • Comprehensive understanding of design, installation, and operation of mechanical utility systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with proven corrective action implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work autonomously managing multiple tasks within constraints of budget and schedule.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse teams in an engineering context.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession or eligibility of Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance and testing methods.
  • Background in process improvements and system optimization strategies.
  • Experience using project planning and scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, or other mechanical utility systems.
