About the Role
As the Senior Manager for SEM at Xero, you will be instrumental in defining the future direction of our global Paid Search strategy. This role requires highly technical expertise and involves hands-on leadership to leverage automation, artificial intelligence, and data analytics to drive scalable growth and operational excellence in our SEM initiatives.
Key Contributions
- Enhance the technical framework of our Paid Search channel, incorporating AI-powered optimization processes, automated workflows, and cutting-edge search technologies like scripting and feed management.
- Collaborate extensively with SEM specialists, Data Science, Marketing Technology, and Product teams to solve complex performance challenges through scalable solutions.
- Influence the approach to utilizing AI and automation in Paid Search by developing systems that elevate decision-making quality and speed, and clearly communicating technical concepts to senior leadership.
Team Environment
You will join a global SEM unit that specializes in technical bidding, optimization, creative strategies, and AI integration. The team oversees Paid Search operations across multiple international markets, prioritizing data-driven experimentation and technological innovation. Working closely with the Head of SEM and cross-functional teams such as CRO and broader Performance Marketing will be key to your success.
Immediate Priorities
- Advance the technical structure of the SEM program to boost scalability, automation, and overall effectiveness.
- Design and implement AI-driven workflows that streamline optimization, data analysis, reporting, and operational routines.
- Develop and refine automated bidding and decision-making systems with stringent validation procedures and controls.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual or complex SEM processes into reusable, scalable workflows.
- Partner with Data Science, Marketing Technology, and Product teams to integrate AI and emergent technologies within the SEM ecosystem.
- Experiment with emerging search and AI technologies to uncover commercial advantages.
Work Location and Style
Xero embraces a hybrid work model, promoting flexibility and in-person collaboration. You will spend part of your time working from the Brisbane office and part working from home as appropriate. The role requires regular coordination with global teammates and various time zones.
Candidate Profile
- In-depth, practical experience in SEM management for large-scale, multi-regional Paid Search campaigns, with strong proficiency in Google Ads, SA360, and contemporary bidding and automation strategies.
- Proven ability to architect and execute automation solutions that address complex performance marketing needs.
- Hands-on experience with AI and workflow orchestration platforms such as Tray.ai, AirOps, n8n, Make, Zapier, OpenAI, Claude, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical aptitude and problem-solving skills, aimed at deriving actionable insights from complex data sets.
- A proactive and innovative approach, demonstrating initiative to identify and implement solutions without needing detailed instructions.
- Excellent communication skills for distilling technical details into straightforward recommendations and influencing senior stakeholders effectively.
- A cooperative and humble demeanor, eager to mentor team members and enhance collective technical expertise.
