Job description
Opportunity Overview
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to oversee our Review Engineering team, consisting of over 20 engineers distributed across three agile squads in the US and India. This role is responsible for guiding the development of workflows and capabilities that enable clinical operations staff to deliver healthcare services efficiently and at scale with high quality standards. You will lead through technical leads dedicated to each squad, managing system reliability and technical strategy while collaborating closely with Product, Design, Security, Clinical Operations, and other engineering teams working on shared platforms.
This position is remote-first but may require occasional travel to Boston, MA for onboarding and team/company events.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage 20+ engineers spread across multiple agile squads located in the US and India through dedicated technical leads.
- Ensure production reliability of Review-owned systems by overseeing incident response, root cause analysis, and coordinating cross-functional teams during major incidents.
- Establish and steer technical vision and leadership during design and sprint planning in partnership with Staff Engineers.
- Provide transparency on delivery progress via sprint metrics, proactively identifying risks and enabling data-driven mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Security, Clinical Operations, and peer engineering teams, including groups in Hyderabad, on shared initiatives and systems.
- Lead recruitment, leveling, and career development for direct reports and their leads, supporting talent attraction and retention.
- Foster a culture that nurtures early-career engineers into future leaders within health technology, emphasizing team autonomy.
- Advocate for rigorous testing, quality assurance, and security practices within a regulated environment compliant with HIPAA and SOC2 standards.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- At least 5 years of experience managing software engineering teams in agile, fast-moving settings, with a minimum of 3 years leading multiple teams via technical leads or managers.
- Proven experience managing distributed, multi-site teams across time zones such as US and India, including collaboration with teams outside direct reporting lines.
- Hands-on background as a full-stack engineer.
- Demonstrated capability to manage production environments and incident responses, preferably within regulated sectors like healthcare (HIPAA, SOC2).
- Strong understanding of modern software development workflows including version control, unit testing, continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
- Experience designing and scaling distributed or microservices-based architectures for high-throughput, high-growth software products.
- A strong commitment to building quality products and fostering autonomous, high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Compensation and Benefits
- Remote work opportunity with approximately 5% travel required.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, plus an Employee Assistance Program.
- 401(k) retirement plan including company match, flexible spending accounts, and health savings accounts.
- Flexible paid time off alongside company holidays.
- Up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave.
- Pet insurance coverage.
- Annual salary range from $185,000 to $225,000, part of a total rewards package that includes health insurance, 401(k), and performance bonuses. Compensation decisions take into account qualifications, experience, skills, and internal alignment.
Interview Process
- Initial phone screening with Talent Acquisition.
- Interview with the Hiring Manager.
- Live system design exercise.
