Job description

About Heidi

Heidi is pioneering the future of healthcare by delivering an advanced AI Care Partner designed to empower clinicians worldwide. In just 18 months, our AI-driven clinical tools have processed the administrative workload of 73 million patient visits, supporting over 2.5 million patient sessions weekly across more than 190 countries. Our core mission is to double healthcare capacity globally while enhancing the human connections vital to medicine.

Having achieved significant market traction with our popular freemium medical scribe, we are expanding to help clinicians focus more on patients and less on paperwork.

Role Overview

The Senior Localisation Engineer will be instrumental in developing and maintaining technical frameworks that enable Heidi's products to be effortlessly localised for varied languages and regions. This collaborative role bridges engineering and localisation teams, focusing on automating workflows, resolving issues, and continuously enhancing global user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine Heidi's localisation platform and processes to enable global scalability.
  • Create AI-assisted translation pipelines balancing automation with human review.
  • Design dependable systems for delivering localised content across web and mobile applications.
  • Build tools allowing linguists and product teams to review, manage, and enhance translations.
  • Contribute to developer tooling and open-source libraries to simplify localisation and internationalisation workflows.
  • Integrate localisation platforms like Crowdin or Smartling into development and release cycles.
  • Work with structured content formats such as JSON, XML, and XLIFF, maintaining clean version control integration.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, and QA teams to ensure high-quality experiences across diverse languages and regions.
  • Identify and troubleshoot localisation-related issues throughout the technology stack, including pipelines and UI/UX.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Between 3 to 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS or GCP.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python or Go, focusing on building tools and automation.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, especially in debugging technical and linguistic challenges.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills across multifunctional groups.
  • A strong commitment to product quality and delivering exceptional user experiences across multiple languages and regions.

Preferred Additional Experience

  • Familiarity with localisation tools like Crowdin, Smartling, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of localisation and internationalisation (i18n) concepts.
  • Interest or experience in natural language processing (NLP) or language-centric technologies.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform.
  • History of developing internal tools or developer platforms.
  • Appreciation for cultural and linguistic diversity; multilingual proficiency is advantageous.

Culture and Values

  • Focus on long-term impact and ambitious goals rather than short-term increments.
  • Proactivity in solving problems ahead of demand and taking ownership.
  • Commitment to evidence-based decision-making with patient-centered care.
  • Ownership of results by addressing challenges completely and actively participating in solution delivery.
  • Emphasis on iterative development and rapid improvement cycles while maintaining precision.
  • Designing with the real-world realities of clinicians in mind, prioritizing usability under pressure.
