Senior ICT Technician

Role Overview

Grapevine Communications (GVC) seeks an experienced Senior Technician to oversee ICT structured cabling and network equipment installations throughout Auckland. In this senior position, you will lead various sized projects by installing, commissioning, and diagnosing devices such as servers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, IP phones, and digital display screens, along with the associated structured cabling. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality workmanship from initial fixes through completion. As the senior technician on site, you will support and guide junior team members, manage client relationships, and maintain GVC's excellent reputation.

You will report directly to a Project Manager and take direction on site from either a Senior Technician or Field Manager.

Key Duties

• Lead installation teams on-site, organizing work plans for projects of varying scales
• Install and diagnose complex network equipment and cabling issues independently
• Conduct toolbox talks, enforce safety protocols, and report serious health and safety concerns immediately
• Engage directly with clients and keep all internal and external project stakeholders informed
• Submit variation requests to supervisors before proceeding with any changes on site
• Guide and mentor apprentices as well as junior and intermediate technicians daily
• Approve completed work and supply accurate as-built documentation to project managers and document teams
• Serve as an escalation point for on-site challenges in collaboration with Field Managers
• Track time and materials used during projects and among team members, and accommodate overtime hours as needed

Candidate Profile

• Minimum of four years experience in ICT structured cabling
• Capability to interpret instructions and adhere to technical specifications accurately
• Proficient in reading and updating technical documentation, such as floor plans
• Experienced with cable testing and certification, preferably using tools like Fluke DSX testers
• Strong understanding of device installations and network connections
• Excellent communication skills for both client interaction and team collaboration
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, particularly for complex or atypical faults
• Detail-oriented in maintaining records and documentation
• Demonstrated leadership aptitude and ability to maximize team performance
