Job description
About The Opportunity
Auxo develops essential software solutions supporting the automotive sector, including workshops, dealerships, fleets, and parts retailers. Their platform facilitates vital daily operations such as quoting, job management, invoicing, parts management, and payments. With over 30 years of industry presence and majority ownership by the Motor Trade Association, Auxo is accelerating the expansion of its cloud-based platform, Auxo Workshop, across Australia. As a mature New Zealand SaaS company, it maintains steady growth and daily active usage.
This role, Senior Software Engineer (Frontend), focuses on frontend development, working closely alongside the Frontend Lead. The majority of product value is realized through user interfaces: the web application enables workshops to organize and manage their day, while the React Native mobile app supports technicians working directly on workshop floors under challenging connectivity and time constraints. Excellence in performance, dependability, usability, and thoughtful design choices to ensure maintainability are crucial.
Although primarily frontend, the position involves full-stack delivery, occasionally contributing to the .NET/C# backend to provide seamless, production-ready feature increments rather than fragmented hand-offs.
The engineering culture prizes practicality, collaboration, accountability, constructive feedback, proactive communication, and a customer-centric outcome focus. Auxo is progressively expanding its AI capabilities, integrating AI tools naturally for speed improvements while maintaining rigorous quality through engineering judgement, security best practices, and robust testing. The ideal candidate enjoys experimentation, knowledge sharing, and contributing to team skill enhancement in a pragmatic manner.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
- Develop production-grade frontend applications using React and TypeScript.
- Utilize modern React frameworks like Next.js for web application architecture and improvements.
- Deliver React Native mobile apps through Expo with successful deployment to app stores.
- Implement and track frontend performance enhancements, analyzing metrics and outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with frontend leadership on architecture, performance, and design system choices.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards including accessibility, testing, and safe deployment practices.
- Leverage AI tools prudently to accelerate development workflows while maintaining high code quality.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated commercial experience building scalable frontend solutions with React and TypeScript.
- Proficient with Next.js or an equivalent modern React framework for production use.
- Hands-on experience shipping React Native applications to app stores (preferably using Expo).
- Proven record of performing frontend performance tuning supported by data and measurable improvements.
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills and constructive code review habits.
- Committed to quality engineering practices including testing and accessibility considerations.
- Comfortable applying AI technologies thoughtfully as part of the development lifecycle.
What Auxo Offers
- Competitive salary reflective of experience.
- An agile and supportive senior engineering environment with opportunities to influence product direction.
- Direct involvement with critical frontend systems both on web and mobile that customers depend on daily.
- Participation in scaling a dynamic product across New Zealand and Australia.
- A culture that encourages ownership, practicality, and high-quality engineering standards.
- Opportunities to help evolve and integrate AI innovations over time.
