About the Role
Qualcomm Cloud Edge in Cork is seeking experienced firmware software developers to join a worldwide team focused on firmware support for high-performance silicon used in Cloud Edge Datacenter applications. The role involves working closely with system architects, senior engineers, and hardware teams across various Qualcomm locations globally.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software for Qualcomm System on Chips (SoCs) and Edge Devices.
- Create and sustain device drivers and bootloaders for embedded platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to design, develop, and test embedded system software.
- Identify and resolve software defects within embedded systems.
- Coordinate with hardware engineers to ensure harmonious software-hardware integration.
- Experience with Embedded Linux development, documentation, and processes is advantageous.
Candidate Profile
Candidates should have a strong background in embedded software with 2 to 7+ years of experience in areas including Board Support Package development, device drivers, RTOS, Secure Boot, TrustZone, peripheral interfaces like I2C/SPI/UART, chipset power management, PCIe, DMA for efficient data flow, and Embedded Linux.
Required Skills
- Proficient coding skills in C.
Desirable Skills
- Competence in software feature design and C/C++ development with unit testing, performance profiling, code coverage, and static analysis.
- Mentorship experience for senior-level candidates.
- Proficiency in GNU/LLVM toolchains on embedded systems and debugging using JTAG/SWD.
- Experience with BSP, device driver creation, board bring-up, RTOS, secure boot, and trust zone technologies.
- Development expertise in peripheral drivers and multi-threaded programming.
- Understanding of SoC architecture including cores, cache, memory, buses, and common hardware modules.
- Familiarity with source code management tools such as git and Gerrit.
- Ability to work in structured software environments on low-level implementation including coding and testing.
- Effective communication skills in English and comfortable working within a multicultural international team.
Additional Preferred Expertise
- Knowledge of high-speed interfaces like PCIe, LPDDR, USB.
- Understanding of Reliability, Accessibility, and Serviceability (RAS) concepts including ECC, IPMI, PCI AER.
- Experience with low-speed interfaces such as I2C, SPI, SPMI, SMBus.
- Familiarity with on-chip middleware for communication, logging, and power control.
- Insight into microprocessor components such as execution levels, interrupt controllers, and timers.
- Use of software development and debugging tools including profilers, compilers, emulators, and logic analyzers.
- Experience building Embedded Linux using Yocto, Buildroot, or OpenEmbedded and understanding Linux kernel development processes.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline with over two years of relevant software engineering experience;
- Or Master's degree with at least one year of pertinent experience;
- Or PhD in relevant field.
- Fluency in programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, backed by academic or professional experience of two years or more.
