Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Senior Façade Engineer to enhance our expanding Facades team. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in façade structures, secondary structure design, and renovating existing façade systems. This position offers the chance to work locally within a supportive team while benefiting from the resources of a global organisation, with offices located in Auckland, Christchurch, or Whangārei.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive façade consultancy services tailored to projects across New Zealand.
- Oversee design, management, and execution of complex façade projects ensuring high quality deliverables.
- Evaluate contractor submissions such as drawings and calculations critically.
- Conduct material and product investigations liaising with relevant suppliers and contractors.
- Engage in professional and effective communication with developers and architects.
- Maintain strong knowledge of relevant New Zealand standards and codes, actively progressing towards Chartered Professional Engineer accreditation.
- Ensure personal work is accurate, high quality, and completed within agreed timelines.
- Supervise and review outputs of junior engineers and drafting staff.
- Lead design team and site meetings, coordinating daily correspondence among the design team and contractors.
- Collaborate with other BG&E façade teams and provide regular reporting to the Facade Lead.
- Support engineering calculations and H1 thermal analysis related to façade design in New Zealand.
Additional Role Functions
Depending on experience and career goals, the role may also include project management, business development, and opportunities for advancement within the company.
Project Management Duties
- Lead façade design and manage commercial delivery for multiple projects.
- Assist in resource allocation, scheduling, and monitoring project finances.
- Participate in contract reviews and coordination with subconsultants.
Business Development Responsibilities
- Support Facade Lead in national brand building and business development initiatives.
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities with existing clients.
- Prepare proposals and bids and foster direct relationships with client management.
- Contribute to continuous internal business improvements.
Candidate Profile
- Hold a degree in Structural or Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or related engineering discipline.
- Relevant experience in façade engineering/design and preferably Chartered Engineer status or actively pursuing chartership.
- Experience with a range of projects (small to large scale) across multiple façade types.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand and international design codes, technical guidelines, and compliance processes.
- Detailed understanding of façade systems, construction methods, procurement, and risk assessment.
- Proficient in detailed design, structural and building physics, testing, inspections, investigations, and site work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with confidence navigating complex situations.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Capability to inspire and lead collaborative teamwork.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
