Role Overview

The Senior Estimator leads the estimating department and ensures the precision and quality of each estimate submitted. This role requires close cooperation with project and operations teams to develop accurate pricing, significantly contributing to securing suitable projects for the company.

• Guide, mentor, and develop the estimating team
• Analyze tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and contract terms
• Create detailed first-principles cost estimates for civil infrastructure projects
• Collaborate with project teams to develop construction approaches, schedules, and resource plans
• Gather, evaluate, and compare quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
• Identify potential risks, opportunities, exclusions, and qualifications
• Present estimates to senior management for evaluation and approval
• Prepare compliant, precise, and competitive tender submissions
• Transfer successful tenders to project delivery teams effectively
• Continuously refine estimating rates, systems, and procedures

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant is a seasoned civil estimator with a proven ability to lead a team and confidently validate their costings.

• Minimum 5 to 6 years of estimating experience on civil infrastructure projects within Australia
• Possession of a Civil Engineering degree is preferred
• Solid expertise in first-principles estimating and construction methodologies
• Familiarity with pricing road, water, drainage, earthworks, and other civil infrastructure projects
• Leadership and mentoring experience for estimators
• Comprehensive understanding of contract terms, risk assessment, and commercial implications
• Proficiency with estimating software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet strict tender deadlines
• Experience with Transport and Main Roads tenders is highly desirable

Location & Employment Terms

This permanent, full-time position is based at the Cairns office in Queensland. The company seeks an experienced Senior Estimator willing to relocate and establish a long-term residence in Cairns.
