About the Role
At Hindmarsh, our Sydney Estimating team operates nationally, collaborating closely with construction teams to secure projects throughout NSW, ACT, and SA. The team boasts a strong success rate and continually seeks ways to enhance its workflow through new ideas, innovative technology, and smarter working methods to make tendering more efficient and effective.
We are currently seeking a Senior Estimator to lead the cost planning and pricing of major tenders and Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) opportunities across a diverse range of projects nationwide. This role involves partnering with construction and leadership teams to submit competitive, commercially sound bids that maximize our chances of winning desirable projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead pricing and cost planning for significant tenders and ECI proposals.
- Develop precise, competitive, and commercially rational tender submissions.
- Drive value management initiatives and identify potential improvements to project outcomes.
- Collaborate with construction teams, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to formulate robust bids.
- Provide cost guidance throughout the design phases and assist in aligning design with budget parameters.
- Maintain strong relationships within the subcontractor community and supply chain.
- Contribute to tender strategy and aid business efforts in securing new projects.
- Mentor estimators, cadets, and junior team members to foster professional development.
- Offer innovative ideas to refine estimating and tendering processes.
- Support enhancements of estimating systems, processes, libraries, and technology tools.
Candidate Requirements
- Extensive estimating experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 building contractors.
- Proven track record in pricing major construction projects valued over $50 million.
- Familiarity with various procurement methods such as Lump Sum, Design & Construct (D&C), and ECI.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies with an ability to evaluate value and risk within tenders.
- Excellent commercial acumen, analytical skills, and negotiation capabilities.
- Proficient in software like CostX, EstimateOne, Bluebeam, or equivalent estimating and construction platforms.
- A collaborative mindset with passion for knowledge sharing and team development.
- Degree qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
