Role Overview

The Senior Engineering Manager will guide and expand engineering teams tasked with developing foundational marketplace platform systems. Core areas include streamlining seller operations, optimizing inventory and pricing management, enabling reliable integrations, and centralizing business management tools. This role involves shaping the technical strategy and building secure, scalable technologies that empower sellers and stimulate platform growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of seller portals facilitating product listing, inventory, and operational controls.
• Design dynamic inventory and pricing mechanisms utilizing real-time data, demand forecasting, and competitive algorithms.
• Develop centralized systems handling operations, financial processes such as reporting and invoicing, and compliance management.
• Create scalable APIs and integration frameworks interfacing with external ERP, logistics, payment gateways, and third-party platforms.
• Innovate user experiences involving multi-seller listings, buy-box optimization, and personalization.
• Define the marketplace system's technical roadmap aligned with business priorities and scalability objectives.
• Enhance platform robustness, reliability, and security to meet performance targets.
• Collaborate with data teams to integrate machine learning for recommendations, demand prediction, and fraud detection.
• Promote DevOps culture focusing on deployment automation and continuous integration/delivery improvements.
• Enforce best engineering practices including code quality, architectural design, and standardized patterns.
• Lead and mentor engineering managers, principal engineers, and contributors fostering innovation, collaboration, and responsibility.
• Set measurable objectives and key results for teams; manage squad velocity across development, testing, and site reliability.
• Work with HR to attract, retain, and develop skilled engineering professionals.
• Oversee complex project planning, execution, and successful delivery within scope and quality standards.
• Engage with senior leadership to align engineering strategies with corporate goals and prioritize impactful projects.
• Coordinate with operations, finance, and business units to synchronize technology investments with growth strategies.
• Communicate project updates, risks, and roadmaps to executive stakeholders.
• Identify and implement process improvements enhancing team efficiency, product quality, and time to market.
• Advocate agile software development methodologies and best practices.
• Manage engineering budgets including personnel and infrastructure cost controls ensuring resource optimization.

Qualifications

• Over 14 years' experience in software engineering with a minimum of 4 years managing sizeable cross-functional teams.
• Proven track record designing and scaling marketplace platforms or enterprise B2B systems.
• Comprehensive understanding of modern web and mobile technologies, cloud computing, and microservices architectures.
• Hands-on exposure to integration frameworks and systems such as ERP, WMS, and logistics platforms.
• Experience working with data platforms, machine learning models, and analytics technologies.
• Strong leadership capabilities in building, motivating, and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
• Ability to balance strategic vision with operational delivery.
• Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience managing globally distributed teams and vendor relationships.
• Familiarity with Scaled Agile frameworks and related tools.
