Senior Engineering Geologist

Opportunity Overview

We are expanding our presence in the Hamilton area and seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist or Senior Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in geotechnical asset management. This role offers diverse challenges daily and involves leading projects from initial planning to completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Utilize your expertise to plan and execute engineering geology projects efficiently.
• Create comprehensive plans, detailed reports, proposals, and technical specifications tailored to client needs.
• Perform desk-based evaluations of sites, including analysis of aerial imagery and published data, to inform project investigations and designs.
• Plan and oversee field investigations by coordinating drilling teams and scheduling laboratory tests to deepen site or regional understanding, or to support hazard/risk assessments.
• Lead onsite investigations such as field mapping, supervising drilling operations, thorough borehole logging, sampling, monitoring, hand auguring, and test pit analysis.
• Develop both two-dimensional and three-dimensional subsurface models using available data to better define problems and solutions.
• Apply computer-assisted methods like slope stability modelling for data interpretation and evaluation.
• Conduct reconnaissance of sites prone to natural hazards, both routinely and in response to incidents, providing technical advice and designing remediation strategies aligned with client objectives.
• Deliver clear, concise technical presentations and written documents.
• Manage projects from start to finish, planning scope, resources, and budgeting to ensure timely delivery.
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across various project components.
• Foster robust internal collaborations and client relationships and support business development initiatives.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a qualified Engineering Geologist, preferably holding a postgraduate degree, or a Geotechnical Engineer with a passion for problem-solving and fresh ideas. Recent graduates from related consultancy or contracting graduate programs with curiosity, lateral thinking abilities, and enthusiasm for continual learning will thrive.
