Role Overview

The Senior Engineer - Systems (Board Support Packages) plays a pivotal role by providing technical expertise and leadership in creating and sustaining BSP components and configurations. This position demands independent work on hardware enablement, support for new platforms, and mentoring junior engineers on BSP development.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain BSP components and configurations.
• Enable new hardware platforms and processors integration.
• Support hardware bring-up and validation activities.
• Write maintainable, high-quality code conforming to team standards.
• Debug and resolve intricate BSP-related issues, optimizing performance and compatibility.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers, engage in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Contribute to architectural and design decisions, advocate technical advancements and best practices.
• Lead technical efforts and small projects within the team.
• Collaborate across global, distributed teams, facilitate knowledge sharing through documentation and discussions.
• Participate actively in sprint planning, estimations, retrospectives, and team process improvements.
• Work closely with hardware vendors, configure device trees and hardware abstraction layers.
• Provide technical direction for BSP components and ensure cross-platform compatibility.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum five years of professional software engineering experience, with at least three years focused on embedded systems and hardware.
• Proficient in C/C++ programming for production systems running on Linux.
• Strong understanding of embedded systems hardware and software development lifecycle.
• Experience with build systems such as Yocto or Buildroot.
• Solid skills in debugging, problem-solving, version control (Git), and code review processes.
• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Expertise in board support packages, hardware enablement, device trees, bootloaders like U-Boot, hardware abstraction layers, embedded hardware interfaces, and performance tuning.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with the Yocto Project.
• Experience performing hardware bring-up and validation.
• Knowledge of processor architectures such as ARM or x86.
• Experience with device drivers and boot processes.
• Contributions to open source projects.
• Background in automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors.
