Senior Engineer - AIX and Linux Systems Administration

Overview

This role entails senior-level expertise in managing AIX and Linux operating systems alongside Storage and Cloud infrastructures, playing a pivotal role in guaranteeing secure, efficient, and dependable IT infrastructure operations for the client. The position supports core infrastructure services facilitating smooth day-to-day functioning, data integrity, and optimal system performance.

Core Responsibilities

• Administration and maintenance of infrastructure software including GPFS, PowerHA, AIX versions from 7.1 onward, VIOS, and PowerVM.
• Installation and management of IBM AIX systems with regular patching for AIX and Linux environments.
• Provide L3 tier support for AIX, servers, and VIO server issues, including participation in on-call rotations for operational disruption management.
• Lead problem resolution efforts and coordinate technical communications during outages.
• Manage system events and customer support tickets via ServiceNow, ensuring timely incident recording and communication.
• Expertise in file systems management, system processes, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• VIO and Hardware Management Console handling, including system recovery using mksysb images and Disaster Recovery procedures.
• Virtualization with PowerVM covering Shared Ethernet Adapter (SEA), NPIV configuration, and virtual SCSI services.
• Strong Red Hat Linux system administration capabilities and thorough understanding of P9 pSeries hardware architecture.
• Maintain and upgrade UNIX system software to preserve system integrity and availability.
• Implementation of AIX and Red Hat Linux security standards and policies.
• Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for LPAR cloning and profile creation, including software installation and maintenance planning for data center LPARs.
• Propose mitigation strategies addressing security vulnerabilities to clients.
• Design, configure, and maintain LPARs for both production and non-production environments.
• Extensive SAN environment support and Storage Area Network administration including SAN architecture, LUN masking, fiber and switch specifications, SAN security, port zoning, and multi-tier designs.
• Hands-on expertise with IBM storage technologies (SVC, FS7200, FS900, V7000) and SAN products such as Brocade Switches.
• Experience in various storage replication software, SAN switches, and related management hardware/software.
• Azure Cloud environment management, including deployment, monitoring, and resource optimization of virtual machines, networks, and storage.
• Implement and maintain cloud security policies, network access controls, and data protection measures.
• Proficient with Trend Micro security solutions like Apex One, Deep Security, and Workload Security, managing policy configurations, agent deployments, update management, log analysis, threat detection, and remediation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 12 years’ experience in UNIX system administration.
• Relevant certifications include Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), IBM Certified Specialist in pSeries Administration and AIX Support, ITIL Foundation, with additional certificates in Azure administration and cloud architecture beneficial.

Technical Skills

• Administration of RHEL and Ubuntu Linux distributions.
• Management of RedHat Satellite and Ansible for automation and patching.
• Expert in AIX system administration and clustering technologies such as Redhat cluster, IBM PowerHA.
• Strong knowledge in blade server hardware and IBM Power Systems.
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere management.
• Storage Area Network (SAN) and storage administration skills.
• Proficiency in Azure Cloud platform management.

Additional Responsibilities and Conditions

• Maintain patch management processes ensuring all infrastructure components receive timely updates.
• Monitor system logs and complete regular firmware assessments and upgrades.
• Coordinate hardware replacements with third-party vendors when required.
• Maintain updated hardware/software inventory and technical documentation.
• Develop scripts to automate routine systems tasks.
• Requirement to work flexible hours and shifts as needed.
