Job description
About the Role
Join a focused team dedicated to creating tools, platforms, and best practices that enable engineers across the company to work more effectively with AI technology. This position involves end-to-end ownership of solutions, from initial experimentation through to production deployment, including maintaining reliability with runbooks, monitoring, and rollback strategies essential for day-to-day engineering support.
As a role with significant influence, you will define the technical direction of an internal skills marketplace and AI distribution system used broadly throughout the engineering division. You’ll collaborate directly with vendors such as AWS, Microsoft, and GitHub to work with cutting-edge, pre-market technologies, alongside guiding and shaping a team beginning its AI journey.
The Team and Collaboration
The AI Enablement team is part of Engineering Experience, focusing on accelerating product engineering teams by delivering platforms, tooling, and actionable guidance for AI integration beyond standard solutions. The team is distributed across Melbourne, Sydney, and the Sunshine Coast, with a product manager located in Wellington. Despite geographic distance, the team maintains strong collaboration through regular meetings and open communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the current tech stack including C#, .NET, AWS, with supplementary use of Python and TypeScript for AI tools.
- Build and support an internal skills marketplace and AI tool distribution platform utilized across the engineering organization.
- Create guidance and establish best practices for authoring AI agent skills, including agents designed for remediation tasks.
- Engage closely with AWS, Microsoft, and GitHub on pioneering technology available before public release.
Working Environment
While based primarily in Sydney, candidates anywhere in Australia or New Zealand are welcome to apply. The team operates a hybrid work model, regularly coordinating across time zones. Periodic in-person "boost days" are organized to foster planning and teamwork.
Candidate Profile
- Proven software engineering experience, preferably with C#, .NET, and AWS, though candidates with other backgrounds are encouraged to apply as adaptability is valued.
- Experience building internal tools or platforms relied upon by engineering teams.
- Strong emphasis on production readiness, including development of runbooks, implementation of monitoring systems, and rollback planning for live deployments.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to advocate ideas collaboratively and engage stakeholders throughout the development process.
- A keen interest in AI programming and native AI tools, with attentiveness to emerging AI engineering trends.
- Capacity to offer respectful, constructive challenge in decision making, and a commitment to learning new technologies methodically and with quality focus.
Additional Information
Applicants should feel encouraged to apply even if their experience isn't an exact fit. The company values skill, passion, and unique perspectives that contribute positively to the culture and team dynamic.
