Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services

Role Overview

We are searching for a seasoned Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading Building Services Consultancy. This role offers the chance to work on a variety of significant projects across sectors including Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Residential, and Mixed-Use developments while advancing your expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Take charge of the electrical design phases for building services projects, from feasibility and concept stages to detailed design, construction, and project completion.
• Create and assess electrical designs involving power distribution, lighting systems, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security systems, small and standby power arrangements, and renewable technologies.
• Develop design calculations, prepare specifications, technical reports, and detailed drawings adhering to industry standards and client specifications.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, structural, and architectural teams to deliver integrated electrical solutions.
• Participate in client, design team, and project meetings, delivering expert technical input and nurturing professional relationships.
• Oversee project deliverables ensuring quality standards, timelines, and budgets are met.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers, graduates, and technicians by offering technical support and reviewing their design outputs.
• Ensure compliance of designs with current legislation, British Standards, Building Regulations, and best industry practices.
• Conduct site visits, surveys, and inspections as needed during project delivery.
• Drive continuous enhancement of engineering standards, innovation, and sustainable design practices within the company.

Requirements

• Possess a degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
• Extensive experience working in a Building Services Consultancy, specializing in electrical building services designs.
• Thorough technical expertise in electrical systems applied within commercial buildings and the broader built environment.
• Experience delivering projects in one or more sectors such as Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Residential, or Mixed-Use developments.
• Proficient with industry software including AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech/Trimble ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Deep knowledge of current Building Regulations, British Standards, and relevant industry guidelines.
• Strong communication skills and the capacity to build enduring client relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects to meet timelines and budgetary constraints.

Desirable Attributes

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or active pursuit of chartership through bodies like CIBSE or IET.
• Experience with BIM workflows and usage of Revit MEP software.
• Familiarity with low-carbon technologies, energy-efficient building design, and sustainable engineering strategies.
• History of mentoring junior engineers and leading project teams.
