Role Overview

We are currently seeking a seasoned and meticulous Senior Editor to bolster our editorial team. This individual will manage the editing and quality assurance process for educational content including textbooks, workbooks, teachers' guides, and other learning resources, taking projects from initial manuscript development through to final print production.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and edit various educational manuscripts to ensure grammatical accuracy, clarity, spelling, punctuation, consistency, and adherence to style.
• Ensure all materials are age-appropriate, align with the intended educational level, and meet specific learning goals.
• Conduct thorough fact-checking of all facts, references, statistics, examples, and citations used in the materials.
• Review content structure for coherence, sequencing, readability, and instructional effectiveness.
• Collaborate closely with authors and content creators to enhance manuscripts and address editorial challenges.
• Offer constructive feedback and oversee revision processes with writers.
• Establish and uphold editorial standards and style guidelines.
• Coordinate the manuscript review process, track editorial workflow, and ensure timely project completion.
• Partner with graphic designers and the production team during typesetting and layout phases.
• Examine proofs and final page layouts to guarantee corrections are implemented accurately prior to printing.
• Maintain superior editorial quality standards across all publications.
• Keep detailed records of manuscripts, revisions, and editorial decisions.
• Engage actively in editorial planning, team meetings, and publication development initiatives.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in English Language, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Literature, Journalism, Publishing Studies, Communication Arts, or related disciplines is required. Possessing postgraduate credentials or professional certifications will be advantageous.

Experience

• At least five years of relevant experience in editing, educational publishing, or a closely related area.
• Proven history editing educational books, workbooks, or similar learning tools is highly preferred.
• Experience collaborating with writers, authors, graphic designers, and production staff is beneficial.

Skills and Competencies

• Excellent proficiency in both written and spoken English.
• Strong expertise in copy-editing and proofreading.
• Comprehensive knowledge of grammar, punctuation, editorial style, and conventions.
• Exceptional fact-checking and research skills.
• Sound understanding of the educational publishing lifecycle.
• Meticulous attention to detail and dedication to quality.
• Effective organizational and time management capabilities.
• Competence in handling multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Robust communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate both independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and CorelDraw; knowledge of Adobe InDesign is considered a plus.
