Job description
Role Overview
The Trade Division promotes Singapore's vision as a premier global trade and commodity hub. Within this division, the Trade Development and Strategy (TDS) team is instrumental in interpreting the policies governing market access through Singapore’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and managing the Commodity Trading Act (CTA).
Responsibilities
This position involves close collaboration with businesses, partners, and government bodies to oversee Singapore’s commitments in Services and Investment under the FTAs as well as the CTA. The role entails shaping regulatory frameworks, enhancing governance standards, and engaging stakeholders to boost Singapore's status as a key commodity trading hub.
- Convert Singapore's FTA commitments on Services and Investment into actionable guidance for businesses to understand their market opportunities, rights, and responsibilities overseas.
- Advocate for business interests related to market access with various government ministries and incorporate their feedback into policy formulation.
- Administer the CTA by processing licence applications, performing evaluations, and managing enquiries.
- Offer clear advice on the licensable activities defined in the CTA, including licensing exemptions eligibility.
- Engage the industry to raise awareness about FTA market access terms and CTA regulations and clarify how companies can leverage these frameworks.
Qualifications and Skills
- 3 to 5 years of pertinent industry experience.
- An ability to merge economic development aims with a regulatory approach.
- A proactive mindset focused on improving operational processes and governance.
- Competent in interpreting comprehensive policy or regulatory texts and delivering them as practical business guidance.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication capabilities to build effective partnerships.
- Self-driven with a team-oriented attitude.
- Attention to detail is critical.
- Exposure to regulatory issues is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Degree-level education in trade, economics, business, public policy, or closely related fields.
