Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Developer to join our Open Source Team dedicated to enhancing 1Password's open source contributions and developing developer tools integrated within IDE environments using agent hooks and IDE plugins. This role carries technical leadership responsibilities, including architectural planning, execution oversight of medium to large projects, and support for end users.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical architectural design and make key decisions to maintain scalability, security, and quality of developer tools and public repositories.
• Develop major features, improve products significantly, and fix critical bugs, particularly expanding our Agent Hooks and developing in-IDE functionalities.
• Define and manage project roadmaps, identifying technical opportunities and risks up to six months ahead and aligning execution with team goals.
• Promote high standards in code quality, testing coverage, and documentation across community-facing projects.
• Align with cross-functional teams including Partnerships, Product, UX, and SDK/CLI groups to translate requirements into deliverable tasks.
• Drive initiatives that enhance user support and resolve developer challenges on the platform.
• Foster a collaborative and positive team environment through best practices, constructive feedback, and shared ownership.

Required Qualifications

• Extensive professional experience in software development with proven ability to independently lead end-to-end delivery of sizable technical projects.
• Expertise in modern development toolchains including Git, IDEs, terminal usage, debugging, and testing, along with proficiency in languages relevant to the team.
• Experience designing systems that are easily extendable and maintainable, preferably in developer tooling, IDE extensions, agent integrations, or sustained open source projects.
• Proven aptitude in setting technical vision and architecture that supports scalability, security, and quality.
• Active participation in public open source communities, maintaining high quality in community repositories.
• Interest in agent-assisted development and building tools that enhance this approach securely.
• Strong communication skills to effectively share project impact and progress with engineering, product, and design teams.
• A security-first mindset aligned with 1Password's principles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience maintaining well-known open source projects or managing community engagement.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled or agentic IDEs and the growing agent-hook ecosystem.
• Background contributing to an Open Source Program Office or similar function.

Compensation and Benefits (Canada-Based Roles)

The salary range for this position is CAD 144,000 to CAD 202,000 annually, supplemented by comprehensive benefits including health, dental, RRSP matching, generous paid time off, equity grants, and incentive programs.
