Senior Database Administrator

About the Role

We are in search of a skilled Senior Database Administrator with extensive experience in managing Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases. This role involves administering and maintaining database environments to ensure high availability, performance, and security while supporting enterprise-level infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and resolve issues in Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL database systems.
• Design and implement PostgreSQL High Availability solutions using Patroni, etcd or Consul, HAProxy, and PgBouncer.
• Manage backup and restoration for PostgreSQL utilizing pgBackRest.
• Ensure MySQL high availability through Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC).
• Handle database replication, migration, upgrades, backup, and restore operations.
• Continuously monitor database health, capacity, and system performance.
• Optimize query execution and undertake performance tuning tasks.
• Enforce database security policies, manage access control, and maintain compliance.
• Automate administrative and operational database procedures using appropriate scripting and automation tools.
• Develop and uphold Disaster Recovery plans and business continuity procedures.
• Act quickly to diagnose and resolve database issues to minimize production downtime.
• Document operational procedures, maintain recovery plans, and update technical documentation regularly.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in database administration within enterprise-grade production settings.
• Demonstrable expertise with Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL management.
• Experience managing PostgreSQL high availability architectures including Patroni, etcd/Consul, HAProxy, and PgBouncer.
• Proficiency with pgBackRest for comprehensive PostgreSQL backups and restoration.
• Competence with MySQL high availability setups, especially Percona XtraDB Cluster.
• Strong understanding of database replication, synchronization, migrations, and upgrades.
• Expertise in performance tuning, query optimizations, and system troubleshooting.
• Skilled in database monitoring, security implementations, automation technologies, and problem resolution.
• Solid grasp of disaster recovery, high availability concepts, Recovery Point Objective (RPO), and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) principles.
• Good command of Linux/Unix operating systems and scripting skills.

Preferred Attributes

• Experience working with large-scale enterprise or financial service database environments.
• Relevant certifications in Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Linux, or cloud platforms are advantageous.
