Role Overview
The Senior Data Scientist for Risk Strategy will deliver strategic insights through advanced analytics and modeling, collaborating effectively while demonstrating a deep passion for data-driven business outcomes. Strong curiosity and problem-solving skills, alongside expertise in modern machine learning algorithms, will be essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze intricate fraud patterns and pinpoint technical root causes via extensive data mining, including uncovering sophisticated fraud tactics used to evade detection.
- Function as a technical subject matter expert by sharing innovative data mining methods, maintaining documentation, and coordinating with technology teams.
- Engage cross-functionally with business and technology stakeholders to relay analytical results to varied audiences.
- Provide technical direction for engineering projects that integrate new data sources, such as API workflows or internal data conversions, to enhance investigative capabilities.
- Utilize link analysis and graph analytics to identify and counteract interconnected fraud networks, including tracking newly added accounts.
- Apply unsupervised learning techniques to supplement supervised models and detect portfolio anomalies.
- Develop machine learning models to improve fraud detection and risk management.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to implement features and improve systems continuously.
Candidate Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field; bachelor's degree candidates with substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in fraud analytics within financial services or fintech industries.
- Familiarity with cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary machine learning techniques such as Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM), XGBoost, LightGBM, etc., coupled with advanced proficiency in statistical and programming tools like SQL, R, and Python.
- A proven history of leading extensive and complex data analysis initiatives to successful outcomes.
- Innovative mindset with aptitude for developing novel, unstructured analytical processes.
- Experience thriving in dynamic startup environments with proactive initiative.
- Willingness and ability to travel when required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong multitasking and project management skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Hands-on experience or knowledge of machine learning model development, including GBM, XGBoost, and Random Forest algorithms.
